Subject: online pgn creator
Message: Hi all,
Slightly of the subject of the gameknot site, but I recently started a small chess tournament between a few friends and decided to put up a site with the table standings and asked everyone to record their moves so that we could chew over them. The tournament went really well, except people invariable made errors recording their moves (we're all just casual players, no club players) and it took me ages to sift through the games to clean out the errors and illegal moves.
Do any of you know a web based application that I could plug in to the site that would allow players to move the pieces on a virtual chessboard that would then create a pgn of their game, that could then be submitted directly to me.

Best Regards,
ampersand.

Message: is the name of one. It is a small application
[100KB] that puts everything into pgn and
can be used to copy & paste the completed
game from/to an email. I used to be a tournament director for aquite large web based email chess club. Zork was a lifesaver. If you want the
address to download, contact me. You
will also need 5 min. istruction on how to use
after you download the application.
Contact me if interested. Chuck

Message: is not what ampersand is looking for. He needs "a web based application that I could plug in to the site", not a local application. Something like a small-Gameknot.

Message: is one I am familiar with, although I have not set it up myself. This site should help - links to a lot of utilities, including palview.

Message: Is great, but as I understand Ampersand needs not pgn viewer, but something like chessboard emulator/move_validator/recorder with pgn output.
I don't know anything with such functionality, which you can embed in your site, but there is online pgn editor: lapides.tripod.com/pgnedit/pgnedit.html. Not sure if it will be helpful.

Message: Thanks everyone for your help. I was suprised when I went looking that the only thing I could find that did what I wanted was the PGN Web Editor that tovmauzer refers to. I guess I could send people there to convert their games to PGN, but it would have been nice to keep everything at chessters.
I use Palview to display the games on the site, but I guess I'm looking for the reverse process.
Anyway, many thanks all for your replies, you wouldn't believe some of the nonsense I get sent in to sift through and attempt to make a pgn from, one game last week had Black's first move as Kf2 ??? Quite a move.
Best Regards,
ampersand

Message: Personally, as black, I prefer to play 1.d7 x e8. It leads to a very short game and provides much extra time at the Bar.....
