Subject: Challenge from PlaychessMessage: Looks to me like Gameknot was unable to accept the challenge from Playchess. Am I missing something? Perhaps the game has already started and I just don't know where it is? In their other challenge, Playchess and TCCMB are already moving along in their game. If Gameknot can't accept such challenges, and instead there are lots of posts about what Cyrano had for breakfast, that is pretty disappointing to me. A lot of people have posted about what a great site Gameknot is (and I don't disagree). But what makes Gameknot so good is dependent on the efforts of the members. If Gameknot doesn't pick up the challenge, because nobody will make the effort to organize a team - that is pretty sorry. If the game is ongoing, and I'm a little "out of the loop" - then I apologize. |

| nottop 6/18/2003 15:52:03 [ report this post ] | ChallengeMessage: Hello Episode, This was quite some time ago. They must have issued it well over a month ago. They also issued a challenge to tccmb (and possibly other organizations). The game against tccmb is well under way - Playchess has publicised the match and Bateman (the master with the strange openings) has sent fliers to many young chessplayers urging them to follow and vote for their moves. Meanwhile tccmb has organized a strong team including Tunc Hamarat (future world champion). It appears to me that Playchess is more intent on having fun and advancing chess while tccmb is intent on winning. Maybe they will both win, in their own ways. As opposed to this, Gameknot has not even been able to accept the challenge (as far as I can see). I could probably have done the initial work, and Tovmauser has been so strong as team captain in our other Gameknot matches - but I could not do that because of personal time commitments and Tovmauser has already done more than his share. I was hoping someone else would step up. But it looks like this won't happen and the "non-match" will simply show the limitations here. That is just my feeling though, and if people feel that Gameknot should be a sort of "closed" chess community - isolated from the rest of the chess world - than that's how it will be. If anybody did want to "step up" - then I can at least say that Tryfon (from Playchess) is an easy going person and not difficult at all to deal with. |

| nottop 6/18/2003 19:22:17 [ report this post ] | Sorry TovmauzerMessage: You are right again. I keep making errors of this sort. I don't intentionally make these errors - it just happens. In my next life, I will not make these kind of errors But I still have to wonder why nobody at Gameknot has been able to accept the challenge and organize a team. For all the people that talk about how Gameknot is such a great site, shouldn't somebody be able to mount a team for this? |
