Subject: Something fishy
Message: This game board #2376471 is similar with game between Scheve,Teichman 1907...I smell something fishy here.I think both players in that board are the same person.

Message: but it seems strange to use 2 names that are so alike, just changing one letter. The player rated 2000+ seems to play generally weaker opponents, the new player rated 1200 has challenged four 2000+ rated opponents. Certainly seems strange.

Message: Well, there are many strange games and players here at GameCheats.
Check out player Unconnected and all the aliases.
Me I am deleting my account here now. No point in paying a fee to get screwed.

Message: the correct policy if you think the rules have been violated is to notify the webmaster.
pickpocket by all means, go find yourself an online chess site where there are no cheaters.

Message: I don't think we know what is going on, so we should be nice and not acuse people of cheating.
The only thing I really dislike is the use of computer chess programs. Unfortunately, to my
knowledge, there is no fulproof way to detect them. Sometimes, you can go through a player's
record and see a sudden jump from an average or poor player to expert or higher in a week or
so. Those players should be avoided. The really tough cases are players who are good and use
programs. There is no general way to identify them. However, if you have the chance to play
them on blitz here, that can be revealing since they sould be at least theoretically sound in blitz
(though with a 10 minute time limit) silly errors are possible at any move.

Message: I'm amazed that players would double register to get points, but in the end they are missing out on the fun. If it's not fun then don't bother. I'm sure I've played against some computers but I enjoy the whole deal anyway. For every idiot wha has a Chess 2000 computer or a number odf registrations and wants to play with himself (literally) then I'll end up meeting at least 8 - 10 serious chess players who are on for a laugh and a serious go at some chess - that's what it's all about..

11/23/2004 03:46:09 [ report this post ] | Hi Honolulu
Message: Nice approach Honolulu.
Actually I HAVE contacted the admins on several occasions.
And cheating... well it says 1 account per computer. If there are more ... why have rules that you don't intend to enforce?
Of course there are cheaters everywhere Honolulu, but the point is that here it is more or less allowed to cheat with multiple accounts. Unconnected claims he is a poor russian student and so his friends play on the same computer for free. So? Are russian students poorer than say Vietnamese?
As long as it says 1 account per computer it actually IS cheating to have 2 or more. But the one that they rip off is Mike, since he is supposed to keep this service for free to those who don't want to pay.
And Honolulu with your nice perspective that I am wrong in complaining - I may be here playing another account for free, what do you know? Thenm I wil of course accept cheaters and multiple accounts, since then I am playing for free and don't think I have a right to make demands. But as lonmg as I pay for a service as premium member I demand that the administrators withholds the rules they have set themselves.
That's all. If YOU don't mind paying for something else than what you were promised when buying it - please buy something from me :-))

11/23/2004 11:05:54 [ report this post ] | I'm constantly amazed
Message: that people can complain (or express fear) about the use of computers on a site that cannot be accessed without a computer. I generally believe that such complaints really concern the use of chess engines (using a computer to calculate moves), but it could refer to databases. I never know for certain.
Such confusion in terminology was recently clarified by a change in the rules used by the International E-Mail Chess Club. I urge ChessKnot and all similar organizations/playing sites to consider their new rule as a model.
There are at least three forms of computers use:
1) I use a computer to access this site; there is no other way.
2) I use books and databases (computer "books") in all correspondence play, unless specifically prohibited (and so far, I have not found any correspondence chess organizations, nor server-based chess sites that so prohibit). Still, this appears to be a gray area for many players.
3) I DO NOT use an analysis engine to generate moves, although I might if I was playing in an event where that is specifically permitted (as is the case for at least one correspondence organization).
I do realize that some of my opponents may choose to cheat by using chess engines. So what? If they "earn" their rating this way, I hope it makes them feel warm and whole. I play for the love of the game. Such cheating would make me feel hollow. I enjoy playing well, as well as learning from my mistakes, whether my opponent is organic or silicon makes little difference.

Message: I don't fault you for complaining. But I think it is wrong to give up and leave because there are
cheaters on Gameknot. Of course, everyone is free to make their own decisions and it sounds as
if you have had other negative experiences here. Personally, I find myself agreeing with
mikeyboy2's sentiments. I accept the fact that there will always be some cheaters, but since
there is nothing that I can do about it, I don't let it ruin my experience here.

12/03/2004 14:09:38 [ report this post ] | The ratings will win out
Message: If someone's using a chess engine to cheat, their rating will increase to the level of the engine and they weill either be too high a level for you to challenge, or if you do challenge them, the penalty for losing to them would be inconsequential. If you actually have a rating that rivals the chess engine, which many here do, then you stand to good chance of beating the cheater, and therefore increasing your rating.
If you're just whining because someone is illicitly getting a higher rating than you, well, you're just a whiner, aren't you.
I prefer to play humans, myself, but I'm not going to get my nose out of joint about someone cheating, it's their loss.
