aboutblank pops ups occasionally while on Gameknot. Locks out the computer and then I have to turn it off and on again. A pain in the backside. Is anyone else suffering or is it just me??

I never have blank pop ups... Do these pop ups appear without you clicking a link? Then I think you caught some spyware. I recommend making a check with an anti malware program (I use Spybot).

about blank is an actual website I believe...and a pain to get rid of if it sets itself as the default start address when one connects to the internet. ANYWAY...can anyone recommend an actual website so that I can remove spyware without paying for it??? BTW never try Spyware Doctor...took me ages to remove it. THX RV but the site I downloaded SPYBOT from also wouldn't let me do anything unless I coughed up. Sure it said I had 384 problems but theen i had to pay for it.

I've used adaware for free (probably adaware.com, but not positive as of right now). Also, either google or yahoo toolbar came with a spyware removal tool. You may need to get a gmail or yahoo email account (for free) or have one already in order to get those toolbars, though you may also be able to get them without such an account. Maybe the spyware removal tool comes separate anyway.
I don't recall ever paying for spybot either, so I don't know if things have changed or if you missed the free options.
Anything that automatically sets itself as your homepage is bad. If you need to know how to reset your homepage, just ask (though it sounds like you've taken care of that already?).
So overall, maybe I know the answer to your question...

Just go to google and type "About Blank". I did and it came up with this website offering a downloaded program to rid of about blank (and other unwanted things as well I presume)
-> www.pctools.com
There are even some cases where about blank is used as a hacking device and is defaulted to your homepage no matter what you do. In this case go to www.pchell.com/support/aboutblank.shtml and that should tell you how to remove from homepage.

Spybot - Search and destroy is freeware. I just downloaded it again to check it. Latest version is 1.4. Just look around, you'll find a download for sure.
