Subject: New time controls
Message: Wouldn't it be nice if time controls of 1 or 2 days would also be possible?
With the new emergency time adding feature, accidents should be prevented..
Cheers,

Message: is already used in all GK tournaments, so why not?
1 day per move is a bit too fast though, I feel.

9/22/2007 11:51:24 [ report abuse ] | ONE day per move!
Message: I don't see why it can't be introduced, for people such as me who don't want to play that fast you can still use longer time controls, so no-one would be hindered. GK's excuse is that it's not fair on the people who don't have much access to computers, but again they could just stick to the longer time controls.

Message: The timezone difference could lead to problems when people from different parts of the world play each other in a one day per move game.
FAQ #22:
-> gameknot.com
"The reason why the very short time controls are not officially supported by GameKnot -- there are players from all over the world on GameKnot and the time difference can put one of the players in a significant disadvantage; also, not all players have access to a computer every day (playing from work or school)."
I think "every day" should be "all day"

9/23/2007 05:37:37 [ report abuse ] | ! and 2 days per move
Message: I support this addition 100%. The reasons gameknot gives for not doing it are not valid, especially the time zone issue. I am sure the players can figure this one out and enter or not enter a game accordingly. The same logic applies to people who have sporadic access to computers. I think they would just not enter a game with short time allowances. Also, there is still the postponement feature that can be used.
This feature has been asked for since I have been here and we got Blitz chess on beta as an answer.
I wish gameknot would take this request seriously.

11/02/2007 10:18:29 [ report abuse ] | We need to be responsible for managing our time
Message: I saw the reasons for why a person could not play games with any time settings, but they don't make sense to me. It seems to me that 1 or 2 day games would not be affected by time zone. That's 24 hours and anyone can move at any time during those 24 hours. The games under 1 day might be affected by time zones, but basically, if you start a game, you need to make sure you have the time to complete it within the limits. I assume that someone who starts a game under 24 hours will be on the entire game or know they will be around every hour--it would just be stupid to start a game and time out because you weren't available. I wouldn't personally join a game that I didn't know if I could complete and I would blame myself if I did indeed time out since I wasn't watching the clock or managing my time better. It's hardly unfair to have shorter time limits considering that the people involved in the game should be starting and joining games that they can complete, not joining and then leaving. It's our responsibility as a player in the game to watch and monitor the times we can play--time zones are not an issue if you know you are going to be on every few hours and start a 2 hr game or every hour or even just play through. Both players should realize this ahead of time and schedule things accordingly if they wish to play--don't start a game unless you know you can complete it in the allotted time. Once again, we can't blame time zones or others for our own lack of time management. As a teacher, I have to manage time well--and I've learned to do so on the chess board as well. I say open up all time limits and if someone times out, that person should realize it's their fault and not try to blame shift elsewhere. What do you all think?

11/08/2007 22:12:22 [ report abuse ] | for time zones--->
Message: why don't they just have an atomatic feature that makes it impossible to play when the times change...then 30-60 hours later you can play again. if some one goes to start a game a little message could appear telling the player something like "these types of games will resume in so&so hours". also they can change the name to GAMEKNOT-WORLD and have anywhere from 5 minutes a game to 30 days a move though I don't know why anyone would want to play that... I mean if I can't make some kind of move in 30 days... anyway It could be the begining of the New World Order or something and just to think lil ol ninja could do all that!

11/09/2007 06:23:43 [ report abuse ] | one move/day minitournaments
Message: If you want to play with time limits of one move per day there are plenty of minitournaments that use one day as the basic time increment. Or you can start your own.
