Subject: Conditional moves bug?
Message: Have a look at this game: board #8090359
After my 21. ... Qc5+ I set up a conditional move.
If W replied 22. b4 (the only legal move) I would reply 22. Qc3, which according to the rules of chess I have been playing for over 35 years, is checkmate.
Imagine my surprise when White replied 23. cxb3 e.p. !!
Luckily I can mate with my next move (unless there is yet another bizarre rule of chess which has been invented??)

Message: That's a bug alright. So you might want to use the "Contact Us" link to report it, rather than the forums.

Message: according to the move list, it says 23. cxb3 e.p., which is quite incredible, especially since the pawn is on the wrong square to take en passant, let alone the fact it is taking a ghost pawn! but on the analyse board moves list, it says 23. b3, which since the pawn has come from c2 is quite an astonishing move also. it hasn't affected the game though, so it's no biggy, but it's something that clearly needs to be rectified. imagine if that cost you your queen!

Message: Even more incredible is that your opponent played that move. (okay, it shouldn't have been allowed, but who would even think of playing such a move?)
Maybe after trying a few possibilities?!

Message: not to report this bug to GK and take advantage of it in a later occasion. I doubt it has anything to do with the conditional move though ...
Check this link (buddie);
-> gameknot.com
Does it say "22. b4 Qc3#" or what?
Funny thing is that the analyzation board recognizes the position as "Checkmate!" twice.

Message: I don't know exactly the way how GameKnot keeps track of positions, but the FEN notation for the position after 22. b4 is:
"rn2k2r/6pp/2p5/2qPpQ2/pP4N1/K2P3P/P1P5/R6b b - b3"
Which draws the position PLUS announces that b3 is a possible square for a pawn to go to because of en passant. The notation for the position after 1. e4 is
"rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/4P3/8/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq e3"
With e3 at the end, because a pawn has just moved two fields forward.
Sooo.... maybe.... because of the conditional move ... the notation for the game after conditional move 22. ... Qc3# was
"rn2k2r/6pp/2p5/3PpQ2/pP4N1/K1qP3P/P1P5/R6b w - b3" instead of the normal
"rn2k2r/6pp/2p5/3PpQ2/pP4N1/K1qP3P/P1P5/R6b w - -"
Which makes it possible for a White (!) pawn to go to b3 ...
So... maybe it does have something to do with the conditional move. But ... after 23. bxc3 ... the White b4 pawn should have been taken away. ;)

Message: Thank you, buddie, for reporting this problem to us. The script that handles the
conditional moves wasn't clearing the capture en passant target from the previous move properly, after a conditional move was triggered. The problem has been fixed now. All is well, it's safe to go back into the water now. :)
