 Subject: Delete votes !?

Somehow, I don't believe the "GK Message" thread, started not too long ago by jsemmens, was deleted ("After receiving 10 votes this message thread has been deleted" - -> gameknot.com --, thread 4169) on popular demand ( =receiving 10 delete votes).
I had already voted "in favour" of the message thread, and I really thought (unless I didn't look well, very possible) that there were no delete votes (when I just checked 15 minutes ago).
Am I right, or am I right?
If you believe that this message thread doesn't belong in this forum, where do you think it should be?

Anyone who advised jsemmens to read the rules should be made aware that he registered in 2004. The rules were different at that time:
"6. If we terminate this Agreement or suspend your Account under these circumstances, you will lose access to your Account for the duration of the suspension and/or the balance of any prepaid period without any refund. We may also terminate this Agreement if we decide, in our sole discretion, to discontinue offering services on GameKnot, in which case we will provide you with a prorated refund of any prepaid amounts (lifetime subscriptions will be prorated using the corresponding annual rate available at the time). This Agreement can be terminated by us, if you do not log in to your account for 12 months or more.
7. As part of your Account, you can provide or upload content to our servers in various forms, such as the Chess games you play (i.e. moves you submit), Chess puzzles, in-game comments, information and images in your profile, forum posts, private messages and similar user-to-user communication (collectively, your "Content"). If we, or our licensors, can reasonably construe that your Content contains any material that infringes any of our respective or collective intellectual property interests (hereafter, such Content shall be referred to as "Derivative Content"), you hereby acknowledge and agree that any such Derivative Content is owned by our licensors or us. For any of your Content that is not a Derivative Content, you hereby exclusively grant and irrevocably assign to our licensors and us all rights of any kind or nature throughout the universe to such Content (including all ancillary and subsidiary rights thereto which include, without limitation, merchandising and interactive media rights) in any languages and media now known or not currently known. To the extent that any of the rights assigned herein cannot presently be assigned under applicable law, you hereby exclusively grant to our licensors and us a universal, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicenseable (through multiple tiers) right to exercise all rights of any kind or nature associated with your Content, and all ancillary and subsidiary rights thereto, in any languages and media now known or not currently known. You hereby appoint our licensors and us as your attorney-in-fact, which appointment is coupled with an interest and is irrevocable, to act on your behalf (either jointly or separately) and to execute, deliver, record and file such documents necessary to document, perfect, protect and enforce the rights granted to both our licensors and us under this Agreement. Your Content shall not: (i) infringe any third party intellectual property, other proprietary or publicity/privacy rights; (ii) violate any law or regulation; (iii) be defamatory, obscene, child pornographic or harmful to minors; or (iv) contain any viruses, trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots or other computer programming routines that are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, decrypt, intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information. We may take any action with respect to your Content if we believe it may create liability for our licensors or us or may cause us to lose (in whole or in part) the services of our ISPs or other suppliers."
No mention of advertisements or ad-blocking software. In fact, part 7 of the ToS was only ammended between February and May 2006.
The Terms of Service (neither then nor now) gives no suggestion that it will be updated without notice, so it is reasonable to believe that jsemmens read the Terms of Service upon registration and believed there was no need to revisit them. GK only said that the Rules of Conduct page would be updated, and it currently makes no mention about ad-blockers. Given that, I think that jsemmens is well within his rights to be surprised by having his non-paying account terminated. He was obeying the ToS that he agreed to.
I am also compelled to reiterate what I mentioned in the "Advertising here" thread. Too many people here are overeager to discourage discontent from nonpaying members, rather than attempt to alleviate those concerns. It's a disrespectful approach, and I don't think we should be looking down on people just because they have concerns about the free service that is being offered. That kind of attitude only leads to general close-mindedness, and again... it only discourages people from becoming a paying member of this site.

I'm not complaining really (Why would I. For EG there is no rule to say someone can't repost an entire thread is there?) . But find this computer stuff is interesting. I lose things in cyberspace all the time you know. :)
You must have caught the thing in mid-processing or something, eh? But as far as 10 votes so quick ... well Yes there is, or at least was a faction that could vote in unison that quickly. Actually probably two, early on at least. I just thougth of another way to do that easily. But think I will not mention it ...

I am of the opinion that GK has the right to amend the rules at any time and it is our resposibility to keep ourselves informed of the changes.I dont think the majority of subscribers feel in any way superior to free members, most of us joined that way, it is a fundamental right to choose our status at any time, but flauting the rules in any capacity will probably not win us too much support, and questioning the intentions and motivation of the rule makers should be done directly to admin, if at all, in my opinion.
