Subject: Announcing team co-captains
Message: By popular demand, teams can have up to 3 co-captains now. Team captains can promote regular team members to a co-captain status via "manage the team" link (same as for team captains, a Platinum or Titanium premium membership is required for co-captains as well). Co-captains can challenge other teams to a team match, and accept or decline other team's challenges, but cannot promote other team members to co-captains.
There were a lot of changes done "behind the scenes" for this to happen, so if you notice anything missing or not working as expected, even if it's a simple typo somewhere, please let us know via "contact us" link at the bottom. General comments and criticism are also welcome as usual. :)

Message: Decent idea, although i'm not sure co-captains should be able to organise matches without the captains approval, will that de-value the status of 'captain' too much? The captain doesn't have to appoint them though, so i suppose it's still their choice.

That's the whole idea behind the assigning of co-captains.

Message: My apologies. I thought the idea of co-captains would be to fill in for the captain when the they're on holiday or when they simply can't be bothered to organise games, rather than always having almost the same amount of control over the team as the normal captain. I appear to be against the world here, so i'll keep quiet.
Another purpose of co-captains could be to replace the captain when he disappears from GK without warning. This kills teams as you can't get rid of the captain even though he's dead. Unfortunately dead captains aren't very good at organising team games, so the team dies out like the panda. Having back-ups would prevent that happening happen

Message:
Yes ... Mike (gameknot.com) should be given the applause for this major improvement.
On the other hand, I agree with rt4sm that co-captains are to replace the team captain when the latter is away or DEAD.
If a captain cannot organise team-matches, why in the first place he becomes a Captain? He should just hand-over the Captainship to the co-captain.
Having said that, none of my team members are eligible for co-captainship as they do not have Platinum nor Titanium premium membership.
In that case, like rt4sm, i'll just keep quiet.

10/15/2007 10:40:15 [ report abuse ] | Question;
Message: How many teams are there with Platinum/Titanium members apart from their team captain? I bet most of the teams only have their team captain with such a membership.
Wouldn't it be better if other premium members (Gold/Bronze/Silver) could be co-captains as well? Otherwise all this work of rewriting the code in the team section has gone into something that not many people are going to use!
Greetings,
heinzkat

Message: Sadly I can not take advantage of this new addition since my team members do not meet the high requirement. It would be nice if the standards were lowered to gold members.
Not all chess players want to be team captains so they do not seek the Platinum of
Titanium memberships. A great upgrade though and thank you Gameknot for all of your hard work.

Message: I am curious to hear what Gameknot says to such ideas? It is a great improvement to this great site but most team members are Gold or Silver member even non-paid members are on teams my team co-captain that I have put my trust in is a non-paid member and I will never ask him to purchases a Platinum or a Titanium membership just to help me out in my duties if it was a gold I would ask him.

Message: .. is really a great improvement! I just tried to promote Chrisobee, someone who is absolutely reliable, and who already organized games over my account. but, unfortunately, I was unable, because he doesnt has the "right" membership. thats a pity...

Message: Why not have different icons for different levels of membership? There's one for you Gameknot!!
I thought I was not able to see the difference between membership icons, its a relief to find there is no difference.
or is there one?

10/16/2007 21:59:29 [ report abuse ] | Why not Life Members too?
Message: I think this is a great enhancement, but why has the possibility to make Platinum Lifetime members a co-captain NOT been made available? They have also made a considerable investment in gameknot.
