I see....

Message:
...the link on my team's page. What I also notice is a 'delete' option. Does this mean that the team captain has a moderator-type function? I'll find out soon enough - my lunatic teammates are sure to post something that would never fly on the GK forums:) Don't worry Mike - I'll make sure they play nice:)

My link to the private team forums is on the "teams" link to the left. There it says simply team forum.

What can I do (as a team captain) with the team-forum? It seems only premium-members can access the forum. I cannot find anything on the help pages.

Non-subscribers

Very nice indeed but almost useless

Message:
I just tried to make use of this feature for my team when one of my team mates remarked it was only for premium membership! So, I lost nearly one hour this morning setting up topics...

Sorry to say this but a team is composed of premium and non-premium members. Why on earth can't non-premium subscribers posts there?

We, captains, already pay a substantial premium (both in money and in time) to be able to have a team. I would have think that a team forum for the whole team would have been part of this premium, no?

Of course, it is possible to use the "Team play forum" as a replacement but hey that's not the point!

Yannick (a somewhat miffed captain)

Yannick..

Message:
I never knew non-paying members can't access it. Remember they're not paying a penny to GK so GK can't be expected to give them the same features as paying people enjoy.

The team captain is paying (dearly might I add) to have a team. Shouldn't be the team forum be part of this 'captain' package also? I know that a platinum membership offers other advantages. But let's face it, I only have it because I want to be a team captain. I've already difficulties managing my twenty, or so, ongoing games, so what would I do with one hundred of them? Otherwise a gold (even a free!) membership would suffice me. And I'm pretty sure not to be the only one in this case!

Additionally, non-paying members might not be directly paying GK but they still indirectly support GK by their presence (and by the commercial ads). Without them, GK would be dull (meaning with relatively few players). Anyway, this part of another debate...

I would even be happy with a restrictive posting policy (on the team forum) for non-paying members. Something like: once a day!

What of the team spirit? When one part of the team is set apart with policy like this, it is somewhat destroying the purpose of being a team!

Anyway, that's only my two cents worth opinion...

I agree with yanm ...

but I doubt GameKnot is going to allow non-premiums in the team forums nevertheless ... :-(

Message:
I understand your frustrations, and perhaps non-paying people should get access to the forums, but the reality is GK restricts non-paying people quite severley, and they're not suddenly going to start relaxing their restrictions.

Remember they're aiming to make money, and if they add something and don't give it to non-paying people, that's going to encourage more to start paying. It's a bit greedy on GK's part, but that's the way it is unfortunately.

My opinion on the matter is that I don't have too much sympathy for freeloaders. They get enough here at Gameknot as it is, I certainly don't think it has come to the point where we need to take up a banner for their rights. If paying a rather small fee is enough to deter some of your teammates from taking a more active role, well that is something they can easily rectify.

"team" forum???

Message:
As a new co-captain of my team, I'm with Yannick on this one.
What's the point of having a "team" forum if it is only able to
be used by half the team??? (It took me a while and a team
message to realize why I wasn't getting any responses on the
team forum). I really don't think this will make non-paying team
members join GK. I'm overwhelmingly in favor of having lots of
benefits for those of us who pay, but this is one case in which
I don't support the policy.

Actually,

Message:
I contacted GK about this issue (at least I consider it to be one) and they answered that they
will forward my suggestion to the development team for further considerations. My suggestion
was rather simple: instead of purely prohibiting non-paying members to post on the forum,
they could allow a limited number of posts from non-paying members there. For example, the
pool of non-paying members in a team is only allowed for ten posts in one week (or whatever
other numbers that make sense). Now, I'm just hoping that they answer was not just the polite
way of saying "no way, dude."

PS Anyone has an idea why my post seems so strange (that is, with random carriage return)
when previewing (I'm posting this from Safari)?
