Subject: Our beloved webmaster....

Message:
....is on a roll. There have been so many new additions to this site in the last few weeks that I'm beginning to wonder if Balco Labs has bought a controlling interest in GameKnot. I can just picture Mike and his cronies gathering around their computers - loading up on "the Clear", pounding Red Bull, and thinking up new ideas to impress the masses. Whatever the case, all I can say is "Great job GK!". It seems like every day that I log in there is a new toy to play with. Purchasing that Lifetime membership was the most satisfying investment that I have ever made. This site has matured so drastically over the years, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Thank you GameKnot! And keep those new features coming!!!!!

First off, thank you for your kind words! :) Much appreciated, considering that 95% of the comments we get is criticism and only occasional praises. Which is understandable -- people tend to be much quicker to complain, than to give praises in general. In any case, most of the new additions to GameKnot are usually "in the works" for some time before they go live. The reason for this is that quite often different features are interdependent and can only be introduced in specific order. In this case, the team forums were waiting for the co-captains and a couple of other things, and co-captains were waiting for the challenge decline rules to be applied to team games as well (so that team members wouldn't get unwanted games, now that several people can be at the team's helm, which creates more possibilities for misunderstandings) and a couple of other things. I'll try to make sure that the arrival of new toys is spaced out a bit more evenly from now on. :)

hehehe ...

okay ... thank you for all the improvements.

Never have i regretted having a lifetime membership.

About the new toys .... You do not have to space them out for a more evenly delivery, just give it out.

Am i being greedy here?

Thanks, mike ")

LOL @ "the clear". Indeed, despite the complaints, I do appreciate the hard work that GK puts in to make the site enjoyable.

thanks GK, you do have a truly excellent site here! I agree, taking out lifetime membership was a great move!

chilliman - ChessDudes Co-Captain

(it's so good to be able to say Co-Captain - I was very disappointed to give up my team captaincy several months ago due to work commitments, now I can still be involved in running the team I started - this is probably the best feature I have seen introduced in recent months. though, the team forum is excellent also, as is the open team challenges, and the enhancements to the challenge decline rules, spellchecker, emergency game postponement... it's all excellent!)

I sometimes criticize things too indeed , but I also appreciate the hard work Gameknot puts into this website. I used to be a web-developer myself and I'm a web-application developer as we speak. I know how much effort it costs so .... THANKS Mike en Co.

I won't stop criticizing though because I always intend to propose better solutions than we have here at the moment, keep that in mind Mike!

By the way: I haven't regret my lifetime member status a single second!!!!

Another happy camper

Message:
I was very satisfied with the site when I signed up for a lifetime membership. But now instead of
merely delivering what was promised, we have received significant improvements. These
innovations are like a gift. Thanks!

Yes, like everyone else has said, this site has shown many great improvements. I'm so glad I signed up for the lifetime membership when it was offered. One neat addition in the future I was thinking of is different colored chess boards, now that would be cool. But I'm satisfied with how it is now! Thanks GK!

Thanks & a suggestion or two

Message:
Love the new mods, especially the pop-up preview of games.
Couple of suggestions:
1) For the themed mini-tournaments, add the pop-up preview of the initial board setup when you highlight the mini-t in the open mini-t list (as well as when you mouse over the "initial position" when you go to an individual mini-t's page
2) This maybe a bug with "My Yahoo's" RSS feeds, but it won't show the board. Just shows the name of the game and the players with a large gray picture with a small rook in the center. When I mouse over the rook, it says "No description available". My suggestion here is to somehow convey info about the last move made (maybe add that to the title of the RSS item?). Many of us can no longer access "gameknot.com" at work (blocked since it is a gaming site) but can get an RSS feed indirectly (e.g. via My Yahoo, etc...) and it would be useful to see what the last move was or better yet, the whole board.

Having said that, it's a great site that just keeps getting better!
Thanks.

Great efforts....

Message:
Pretty incredible that you are able to wane through mountains of criticism and continue to look for opportunities to improve this site. I have only been involved for a year or so, but I see a number of improvements in that short time. The new team forums, co-captains and quick view boards are just a few but recent great additions.

Is it possible for Captains to have some sort of "printable view" of the team and/or team games played? I must copy and reformat alot, alot and alot to gather team performance data for monthly reporting as well as keeping messages to and from team members organized and referenced for future management.

This thread is really for praise and appreciation. I guess I could not help sharing a challenge. Thanks Gameknot. Joe

I have noticed the vacation flag is not high lighted and more. I would like to see it back in orange. It is most helpful.
