 Subject: Invalid/Illegal Blitz Games

Perhaps this subject was brought up before,but I rarely read the forums.
I play alot of blitz on this site and I noticed that on occassion there are 2 major flaws in the GameKnot blitz program.One is that it does not allow my opponent or I to initiate a legal castle move every so often,perhaps every 50th game or so and much more frequently,the blitz board does not recognize a perpetual check/draw by not allowing me to make a King move when it would be necessary to move....thus there is no other move to make and I am "forced" to simply let my clock run out or quit/resign.Likewise,if I cannot make a legal castle move in a critical position,it can easily cost me the game or give an unjustified advantage to my opponent.When either of these things happen,I personally call these games invalid/illegal due to the fact that the board is not permitting me to make a legal move which by all game/book and tournament standards is considered an invalid and no player wins or loses.I run across a few opponents(won't mention names),that say,oh...too bad,you lose or yeah right,they don't believe me that i can't move and say,oh...your just stalling,ect,ect. These players have no sense of proper chess etiquette as far as i'm concerned and i wish something could be done like an added button one could click on to to claim an invalid game!By now,most blitz players are aware of these problems and there should atleast be some kind of formal or informal agreement between the players as to an agreed termination of the game with no credit to the other player.Letting ones clock run out or quitting is the only option,but thats like saying my hands are tied,I can't make any more legal moves so my opponent wins??Ridiculous ! Players must be made to understand that even though their board will say...."you win" once the other player leaves the board,that in reality,regardless of what the gameknot board says,its NOT A WIN because that game has broken rules attached to it...and thats where we get into the chess etiquette scenario again.

But I guess GameKnot is already working (for a long time) on a lot of improvements in the Blitz section, to implement them all at the same time, which will make it the perfect Blitz chess - or not??

they are not an advantage to anyone since it the program flaws permit "unfairness" to both players.Plus,it has ended up to be "my"diadvantage many times due to the dumb remarks of the weaker player talking alot of crap which i don't want to hear or that I am the one that cannot castle after move 10 or so,simply ridiculous,so there are no real "calculations".As to improvements in the 2 catagories i just mentioned including the king move scenario,I was told by players that have been on this site for years,that this has always been the case,and no improvements have been made.What a shame...take our money like me as a gold member,but have board play that permits illegal game play according to the "normal"rules of chess.

note that the Blitz section still is in 'beta' stage - which is clearly stated when entering the Blitz.
The normal GameKnot correspondence boards are very good - compare them to other websites.

but no, i disagree relative to the correspondence board on this site.I play on this blitz site yes,but play on many others as well and sites like ICC and Instantchess and even to some extent,UCHess are 1000% better.Choice of opponents, play from 1 minute to say,30 minutes,chance to play GM's and computer program "bot" play like on ICC and much better graphic and color boards on other sites rather than drab grey.I'm mainly on this site for the 3 day games,so i'm not taking this blitz site too seriously,especially since it is NOT rated like ICC and others,(which is part of the being "better" scenario with the other sites),but still,I hope there is an improvent soon rather than beta stage "hopes"which is the same thing they listed for years.............

Hmmmm, this might be my only way of ever beating dr_dread...
But seriously, it is annoying, but I have one way to get over it. These games don't matter or count for anything. If the other player won't believe your explanation, just resign and move on. Let them think what they want, let their ego inflate, but know that their just ignorant (and probably not only about these features on this site).
I know it's hard, but as long as you don't bring your own ego to the game, it won't be too bad. Or just wait until I show up. I doubt I could get you into a drawn position anyway.

and i know we have met in the blitz room before.yes,your right,i'm a "dread" in the blitz room,but you know something?.....I am always polite,never talk crap over another opponent even if i'm killing them and i'm up 20 points!I never ask them to resign or make fun of them for continuing to play on,even in a hopeless situation.Perhaps you are aware that I even give up my queen or a knight in the opening occassionally just to try and even the odds,or atleast make it more challenging for me!
But this blitz site,sorry,but i feel is simply lousey and the so called beta promises should have delivered along time ago.On Instantchess for example(an unusual Russian chess site) I play on blitz "teams" along side of some very powerful russian players....wow,what an experience!Now,for even rated "teams" to be on GameKnot in the blitz room,it will probably take another 10 years of "beta",if it ever does come about!
