Subject: Shorter game time options

Message:
Today I was thinking about all those players who complain when someone takes the full time to move (because they actually have better things to do with their time than sit at the computer hitting refresh every 5 minutes)--and thought maybe the best option would to be make new time settings where these players who desire super fast games can play....

I have been on chesshere.com and they have 5 min, 10 min, and 30 min games as well as 1 day, 2 day, etc....why not do that here? Then the people who want fast games can get off the back of players who realize that there are more important things than chess in life.

I have been irritated by those who complain (if you haven't noticed) that people don't move faster--when those people agreed to sign up for the given time limit. I'm sorry, but if you sign up for a timed game that is 14 days--then you agree to play knowing that the person playing may need more time to move and can use all 14 days if he/she so desires. If you want fast games, then sign up or have a mutual agreement with the people you are playing rather than complaining about players who have a life outside of chess.

But for those who want fast games--I suggest an alternative to help them out. Why not have speed chess and 1 or 2 days per move options to help them find people who have a like-mind and want faster games?

Okay, you're basically saying 'don't bother rushing me' - which isn't even allowed if I'm correct.

1 or 2 days per move => -> gameknot.com

Yeah, do you mean it's not allowed to rush people, or saying "don't bother rushing me" isn't allowed? (: I'm just tired of all the complaints in the forums here talking about how to speed up play in tournaments/GK tournaments etc...as if it's our fault for postponing our games or taking the alloted time. No, I'm sorry, the problem here does not lie with us but the person who willingly joins knowing that there is an option for the other person to take his time. Even in GK tournaments, there will be postponements--and you must realize this before you join. You must consider every option. It's each to his own--some people prefer long games--let them do that--and don't complain about them as if they are the problem....and some people prefer short games (which is why I'm promoting these options for them) and we shouldn't complain they move too fast (I don't by the way). My main issue and complaint (if you want to use that term) is that people won't realize that the true person responsible is the person who signs up--sign up for what you can handle and don't complain....leave me alone when I take a long time due to family problems, etc--and have to postpone. Leave those alone who need more time. Before you join, stop and think--do you want this setting, how long may that person take to move, can that person postpone--the answer is yes, of course. If you join and proceed--then it is your responsibility to finish out the game with respect and dignity no matter how long your opponent takes to move. You may ask politely if they are on--hey, do you want to finish this game? But if they can't you must respect that--and over all, don't blame them. It's you who started the game in the first place.

I also thought about a no-postponement option in which you could start a game and have it not postpone when all other games do and not count as 1 of the 6 moves before postponement can be cancelled. This way, postponement will not affect it also making the game or even tourney (another place to have this option) faster. All these things would benefit fast players...

But you have no right to complain about slow play...when you agreed to join in the first place....I'm tired of being blamed for taking my time due to things in my life that came up....leave me alone and I will leave you alone--and even fight so that you can get more options to benefit you. Then we can all get along....
