Subject: Color change in the works?
Message: Hi...I LOVE this site -- I was just wondering if there are any plans to be able to change the color scheme in the works at all, whether it be user-choice or just an extra option color or two - of course the dark blue and orange works, but might there be any other color options coming down the way? Any feedback (especially from the site admins) would be helpful...thanks!

Message: I like the idea. The site looks a bit dull with the same colour all the time. Suggest it to the admins.

Message: But, although nothing has been done to that effect ... the ever versatile GK should already be able to meet your needs for an extra color or two. Yes indeed, between your windows coloration controls and those of your monitor ... at least if you have a late model; you can make adjustments that will turn dark blue to charcoal gray, or purple, and orange can be made into dirty brown, Or putrid yellow~! :)
All is well in GK Land ...

Message: I love this site, but I gotta admit, the colors are a bit "dark", and just the thought of being able to lighten them up would be great. Like I said, even if we users were just given 2 or 3 other "theme" choices -- nothing fancy, just a set of pre-determined color sets that we could choose from (e.g. background light blue, font dark green OR background ivory and text dark blue, etc.). Any admin feedback here?

Actually, color suggestions, for more or different ones, has appeared in GK Forum at least a half-dozen times since 2003.
Generally, many players say they Would Enjoy some more aor different colors but can do fine without. (Like me). Some add ... they would like to see other
improvements first.
Another faction would Dearly-Love some change. But even with all the good input I've seen about this in Forum, I can't recall that GK ever wrote a reply here!?
(Does anyone? Am I wrong?) Nor do I recall anyone posting a GK Response to any
"CONTACT" Question about it. Do you suppose you might want to ASK that?!
******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* *****
It would be quite interesting to see the reply if you did write it up as a Contact
Question, sent to "GK Customer Service/CONTACT", as found on the bottom of the Site-Map page. SITE-MAP= gameknot.com
gameknot.com/online-chess.pl
It would at least be interesting to see what GK might say about the prospect of colors~! {Questions/suggestions only made in the Forums are not necessarily read or replied to by GK. It is an exception to that, when they do from time to time answer in the Forum. But have pointed out that CONTACT submissions are the usual and preferred means for such correspondence to the site. } GK used to have some Polls at times. Maybe it would be a good question for such, if it is sent to them.

PS/ Myself, I can do fine with the colors now present. And as mentioned, can just alter them to some degree if I should tire of one particular color-scheme. But if it were available to use some completely different colors, I would probably do that at times.
My "John Madden" Football video game on my 386 machine has a "secret key combination" I accidentally triggered once. It turns display from solid-colors to
RAINBOW~~ Pretty Wild looking~! Now I know how to do that.
... It makes me wonder if GK has any "Secret Color Key ?! ... & all we'd have to do it is find it? ... Like a treasure hunt~!
Perhaps the Key could be added, & to access it we must figure out The Riddle, as done for Mike's GK-Nik !? Or EARN more colors by winning more games, or Mini-Tournaments ~~ or hosting them ?~! Or annotating games perhaps!? That would make it Fun, IMHO :)) [In my humour opinion ...]

2/08/2008 20:15:43 [ report abuse ] | Well, I will be honest with you...
Message: ...this isn't the first time I have posted about this color bit. AND, I have written to the admins via the "GK Customer Service/CONTACT" -- I forgot whether I received nothing or a "we'll take it into consideration, thanks!" boilerplate letter that everyone gets. Even if I got a more personal letter that was to ME that said, "Hey, good suggestion, but I gotta be honest with ya, that's a long time down the road..." that would be FINE with me - just some sort of more personal contact, even if brief. By the way, does anyone know what's on the agenda for development here at GK? They are always releasing cool stuff, but it would be great to get a glimpse into what they are working on currently...

2/09/2008 00:57:56 [ report abuse ] | I've received this...
Message: Most of the times, or slightly edited:
"Message from GameKnot customer support:
Hello, heinzkat,
Thank you for your feedback and suggestions, they will be passed
on to our development team for further consideration.
Thank you for choosing GameKnot as your premier chess
battlefield!
Best regards,
GameKnot.com"
And most of the time, they have done not so much with the feedback :-) But they're working on a lot of things, I'm sure... maybe they'll take the feedback into consideration in a few years!
Also, see this:
"Sorry, unfortunately we cannot provide any additional feedback
about any of the suggestions. The way it works is that all
suggestions go into a general list for the dev team to consider
and it is not possible to predict when the suggestion is
reviewed, or accepted/rejected, or when it can implemented or how
soon. It can take anywhere from a couple of days to several
months/years, depending on various factors, some of which are
totally out of our control."
And I think they are currently working on the puzzles section, "Options…" -> "All moves graph…"

Message: That is too bad; a bit disappointing. (And it almost seems like there might have been more upgrades added back when Mike was a lone-ranger, before there was a "development team". )

I was thinking how it would be really wonderful if GK had a list for us, of "pending" projects, at least. So that members could have some kind of idea as to where the site was headed. Tho I must admit, it is also pleasant to come online & find a "Big Surprise" waiting for us ... such as the SPELLCHECKER~!
Like "Merry Christmas"; and I didn't even know it was December kind of thing. :)
*****
I've really been hoping for some action or insight upon the Blitz area upgrades;
that as I understand what I was told, were 'intended but not scheduled' basically.

Message: good suggestion, publish the "to-do list", or would this suggestion end up on the bottom of the current to-do list ;-)
