 Subject: What happens to a team...

if the captain stops coming to gameknot? I think that no new members could be admitted, and that no one could be promoted into co-captain. So what would happen to such team? Would it be condemned to slowly die out until the captain's subscription expired?

If the captain does not come back the team will run out of games. Once that happens the team dies. With out the captain nothing can be done. I am sorry if this is happening this is a bad death for a team.

that you are the co-captain of said team. With that you would be able to run the team with the captain gone. As for when the captains membership runs out I am not sure about what would happen to the team. But stay tight and heinzkat will be here shortly to fill us all in on what would happen? Something like the exposed happened on our team.
The founder leaved GK and the team seemed doomed to fall, but...
The easiest way: Ask the webmaster for a captain change, and the team can continue his way.
Time later the same happened to other teams, and the answer was the same: Ask or contact webmaster and expose him the problem/situation.

IF a team has good cohesion, why not take a collection for a captain level membership upgrade. The problem of course is that the person can easily tire of the job, I am sure ...
That is why I would like to find out what someone would think of the idea of a transferrable Captains or Team membership fee? Seems to me tho it would be great too if a team could automatically have a captain without the added fee, as long as Someone has that level of membership on the team?!

GK faq states that anyone with platinum or titanium membership can act as captain or co-captain. I don't think that there is an aditional fee for teams.

I thought that ccmcacollister meant that there is for example a team with no platinum or titanium members, but there is one collective membership fee paid for the whole team, and then the team members can "recycle" the captainship as they wish.

That exact circumstance happened to our team just recently, over the holidays.
If the captain is gone for more than 30 days, then the team can vote for a new captain. Such a move is needed when the captain disappears. While the co-captain can continue to run the team, no new members can be admitted to the team without the captain.
We voted by placing our preference in our profiles. We notified GK again once a majority had voted for the same person. GK made the appropriate changes within a couple of days once the vote was final. Since we had a few choices, we recommended that the old captain retain the title of co-captain--just in case he returns. Meanwhile our team continues.

Our captain left for good so I organized a get together of the members and we agreed upon a new captain...TEAM USA is still alive and kicking today, because of my efforts. (:
