Subject: What new developments are GameKnot working on?

Message:
I love this site - it's great.

The features here seem better than most other sites, but I haven't seen much new stuff recently. I like the hovering bit in the list of your games which does a little pop-up of the current board and also the + - number of points, but what else are the GameKnot people working on?

suggestion and question

Message:
I would like to be able to print an analysis board. Currently if I have an analysis board as the active window and choose "print" either from the menu or from the button on the analysis board window; then the main game board is printed, not the analysis board. Or is this only me? Something I am doing wrong? I am using Firefox and Mac OS 10. There is a work around if I do a screen capture, but that is less desirable because of the dark background.

cc: to GK

addendum

Message:
I should have added:
"Thanks. This is a great site and only a minor problem."

I did add this in the direct message to GK.

The site is perfect

Message:
Maybe if there was less development they could lower the premium prices. GK is by far the most expensive chess site on the web.

lturner ...

Message:
I believe chesspublishing.com is considerably more expensive, for one. And another I can't recall the name of, which includes coaching tho. Also ICC, unless it has gone down in price!? I heard it was $40 or $50 when it first split from FICS? [But I can't stand the graphics or pairing system there anyway. I only know one other site with board graphics I like as well as GK's.]
Which is not to say I would mind at all if GK has another big Sale on memberships~! }8-)

PS// cascadejames ... I have the same problem, and have also suggested it would be great to have an independent analysis board. Would you mind telling me how you do a
screen capture? I have not known how since using Hayes protocol :(

Have you ben grandfathered in cheaper?

"Also ICC, unless it has gone down in price!? I heard it was $40 or $50 when it first split from FICS? "

GK premium rates START at $40.00 and goes up to $100.00. I guess you made MY point. Very expensive site here!!

Message:
But not too expensive that I don't want to pay. Nor for others, it seems. If you provide the best product, and GK does that, IMO, people will pay for it.

If they don't want to pay for it, they can always go down to 'cheapchess "R" us' down the e-road, there's nothing stopping them.

Craig

Message:
I am strictly a Mac user so I don't know how to do a screen capture with Windows. FWIW-

For a Mac-- When you want to capture what is on the screen:
1. Click on the desktop to make Finder the active application.
2. Press Command-shift-4 and the curser turns into a set of cross-hairs
3. Click and drag the cross-hairs across any portion of the screen you wish to capture.
4. When you release the mouse button the operating system takes a snapshot of the area
selected and stores it as a pdf file on the desktop.

This is a function of the Mac operating system, and it works independently of the particular
program you are running at the time. I think there may be something similar for Windows, but
don't know for sure.

Screen Capture

Message:
For Windows: find the "Print Screen" button ("PrtSc" for me, may be other choices). Note that you may need to press "Shift" or "Fn" or something else to access it depending on your keyboard.

What that button does is copy an image of your screen (without the mouse/cursor) to the clipboard. Open some program where you can paste a picture (such as Paint, but also into Word or PowerPoint if you want). Paste the picture and save.

I would be surprised....

Message:
...if we actually did hear from gameknot.com at all. I am just stunned at the lack of contact from the Admins. Its like trying to talk into a black hole. Even if someone from Gameknot.com posted *once* to this thread and told us anything -- we aren't asking for the moon here, just a little feedback to keep the masses happy (Note: may I remind the Admins that these are the same masses that are paying subscribers to keep this site running -- a message or two to us wouldn't kill you). I think this site is *great* and it offers many great features that others do not, but if we never hear from the wizards behind the curtain, then we are kept in the dark. And you can guarantee that will lose paying customers.

cascadejames and ganstaman ! I tried em, and mine won't do it. The print screen button has just seemed dead on my last two computers ... This keyboard looks like a std 110 key plus some 18 added commands like calculator... wait one of those does show a clipboard ... seems to be dead but will work at it awhile.

Glad to hear it is under consideration!

Databases

Message:
Why not having a weekly/monthly release of ALL the games played so far in the site?
This is the only one CC-site that hates give away the games played on it!
We once asked about build a personal database to share, but they recommended us not to do so, arguing some copyright properties of the players of each game (or so)

Can it be done?
It cost around 2 years and half (or more...) having a link to download the PGN of a concrete minitournament, but you must crawl inside EACH of the minis, to have the links.
Same happens with the players, having a decent database implies to go player by player (with the server load that it implies) Why not a mail list with the premium subscribers to send the games played? It does now with my finished ones. Or a direct link to download from the server.
