Although the current lay out is quite pleasant, I'd find it nice if some others skins for the website
would be available... (I like a board with real wood like in real ;))
Or is this feature already available somewhere?

The ONLY thing I dislike about GK is the depressing dark appearance of the screens, and orange
lettering. It would be terrific if some knowledgeable person could design an alternative interface.
But I have no idea how much trouble that would be.

Erm, I actually very much like the dark appearance of the screens, they have a calming effect on me, which is ideal for chess. The 'hospital ward' bright whites of other sites just give me a headache.
I guess as long as new interfaces are options rather than default, it shuoldn't be a problem.

This is a great site, but the dark appearance makes it so annoying...even if we had a choice of just one or two other skins, that would make this site so much better...however, my guess is that the Gameknot admins aren't reading this, based on previous posts and simple requests that go unanswered. It's too bad such a nice site has horrible communication with its players. For the most expensive correspondence chess site on the internet per year, you'd think they'd touch base with their members a bit more.

I strongly second cascadejames on the calming effect of the current color scheme. Plus, I've been playing on this website for four years now and it's very comforting to know that every day I'll be able to get on Gameknot and it will be just like how it's always been. It's important for me to have some constants in my life.

My experience with GK has been very different than yours. When I sent them a request for an
improvement they provided it within a short time. BUT the forums are not the place to
communicate with them. They tell you that in the FAQ's. You have to send a direct message.
Also you should not assume that just because you want a feature it is universally desired or
easy to implement. This feature is a good example of that.

Yes, this is true...not everything that everyone wants might be able to be done. I have contacted them in the past, and they have come through, true, but most of the times I get that generic "we'll look into it" message. Maybe could the admins post to the boards once every few months telling us what's up and what they are working on? Maybe this is too much to ask....
