Subject: www.Google-Analytics.com?

Message:
What is Google Analytics doing on GameKnot pages [notice: for premium subscribers]? I thought we, premium subscribers, were and should be immune from this kind of third party websites/junk while browsing on GameKnot?

On every page

Message:
Check the page source. I somehow noticed because it said in the status bar it was loading something from google-analytics.com - I thought 'huh' and found out...

What exactly does Google Analytics do?

Message:
My shot-in-the-dark guess is that Google Analytics does some behind-the-scenes site visit count and analysis (hence the name) so when a person visits each (?) page, it is recorded (?) for analysis. Wow, does that sound lame, but its my best guess. Anybody else want to give a better description? I am sure it can be done. :)

Google Analytics is a service that helps analyze website's visitor trends. I.e. the number of visits per day, the most visited pages on the website, the most clicked links, time spent on specific pages, etc. etc.. We already have all that information in the server log file, but Google makes it all well organized with various graphs and break-downs based on the dates, types of traffic, etc. etc.. This information isn't linked to anyone personally (it isn't even linked to your user name, all we see is numbers) and it definitely isn't visible to anyone other than GameKnot's staff. We definitely wouldn't want to give away any information about our visitor trends to anyone!

Why do we need it? To optimize the website and page navigation. It helps figure out which pages are more popular and which aren't as much, and what can be done about it. I.e. are certain pages don't have enough links and are hard to navigate, or is it the opposite -- the website is too cluttered with too many links to choose from.

I wonder what the most visited page on Gameknot is, aside from the front page...

I feel quite sure it is gameknot.com.

gameknot_com, you understand people feel "Googled" now? :))) It's a third-party website I feel that 'should' not belong here for premium subscribers... but OK, it's just a 'passive' counter, so no worries!
