Subject: All 'strange' symbols replaced by

Message:
Is this true or is this only a problem of my web browser? All é, á, ï, etc. symbols have been replaced by , it seems.

Message:
I have the bug as well.....I'm captain of a team, and put a "TM" symbol after the name. When I logged in today, it was replaced by a "?". 10 min later it is now a square.....weird....

Yes,

Message:
But notice that if you manually replace the symbol, it will be accepted and the symbol will return. I had an é and an á on my profile, both were turned into that weird thingy, after replacing them the é and á were accepted again.

Especially annoying...

Message:
in the puzzles. Do I really have to check all 1500 descriptions if there is a strange symbol in it, to manually replace it?

Might be a browser-dependent thing. I'm using Firefox and I haven't seen that symbol anywhere.

Do you have any examples in one of your puzzles where you're seeing the symbol?

Now That is funny ...

Message:
Heinzkat, I notice that the special box symbol you printed here showed up for me as a purple square with a question mark in it before ... and today it is an empty, uncolored square ...

AHA!

Message:
And I see WHY too!
Right now I am on Firefox and it is back to being an orange(?) diamond with a ? in it, on the title page or white diamond here, with a ? in it. Just minutes ago when i posted, I was on IE-7 and it was just a square. Wonder what Opera is?

okay

Message:
Opera is like Firefox. AOLbrowser is like IE-7 (which makes a lot of sense, since it seems to take IE and put it to its own use. In otherwords, you cannot run AOL without IE but yet they are different to use ... maybe adds functions, since it is a smaller program than IE yet seems to do more. Is that possible? )

I was going through the items in MS service pack 3 and noticed this:
support.microsoft.com

This issue apparently just came up, maybe because they tried to fix something else. But they do have a hotfix now or simply install sp3, which is out of beta now.

The header caught my eye right after reading this thread, "Some characters from End User Defined Character (EUDC) fonts do not appear correctly in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003". Hence the reason Firefox and Opera report them correctly since they are not integrated into the windows shell like Internet Explorer is.

There is a problem with installing sp3. It can and will crash the system. I just got my computer back to where I can get on-line, but it is still seriously damaged. Don't do the sp3 install yet. I still have to notify Microsoft of the problem.

Problem solved. Apparently Microsoft said I was the first person to report the problem. They created a fix for it while I was on the phone with them. It took 1 hour and 40 minutes to resolve the problem. They will put a solution to it on-line soon, if they have not yet done so. That's pretty good service.
