Subject: Quitting BLITZ

Message:
1) Many times, while playing BLITZ, I will be in the middle of a game, and the opponent
simply QUITS---without resigning. It's worse than loosing. The problem is that the time you
took to play has been a complete waste. If something comes up in the middle of a game and
I have to quit for reasons unrelated to the game at hand, I ALWAYS scroll "sorry, gotta go, gg"
and then resign. At least the opponent had the knowledge of what occurred. Although it has
never happened to me, this would be exactly the same as playing a game somewhere at a
club or bar or someplace, and your opponent excuses themselves to the rest room, and never
comes back. Pretty weird feeling, no? You're sitting there...wondering...etc....then you feel
you wasted all that time. Is it possible to send a mailing to current members and all knew
ones some etiquette guidelines regarding this? I'm not talking about games where your
opponent has no idea how to play, but games where everything seems normal and it suddenly
ends.
2) Once in a while, when playing, the opponent uses profanity or even ethnic slurs due to my
Italian name. I wait them out and if it keeps up, in the case of badgering and swearing, I ask
how old they are, and they are always adult age, and I scroll, "Time to grow up, don't you
think? Gentleman's game. gg" and resign. With the ethnic slurs, they ALWAYS spell them
wrong and tell them so, and then go into the "How old are you...?" line. Is there a way to
report this activity so that if someone gets enough complaints against them they are out?
Usually, these types are decent to good players.

1) I have sometimes had my internet connection go out while playing a blitz game. Also, once, I highlighted the URL in the browser, then clicked and dragged it (partially playing around while waiting for a move, and partially because my mouse will move on its own sometimes). Not knowing where to put the URL, I just put it back where it came from -- this restarted the blitz application for me.

So, point is, sometimes people "quit" for non-bad reasons, so don't judge everyone as guilty right away.

2) Just report the name to gameknot and tell them what happened, and the players will be taken care of. I did once report a player and was told that he received numerous complaints. That account got closed soon after. The link: gameknot.com

waste of effort,

Message:
There is no authority or power on earth that can legislate good manners into existence. It would probably be less stressful simply to accept the fact that people are different, and nothing you can do will force them to think and act the same way that you do. They possibly even resent the fact that in a game of war, you insist on playing the part of an officer and a gentleman. Why should you expect the front line soldier to adhere to the same code of conduct?

"these types are decent to good players"

Message:
Hardly. Patzers do stuff like that.

You might be able to provoke a "decent to good" player to flame you back if you try hard enough.

Blitz rating needed

Message:
Maybe when recording a separate Blitz rating this will stop happening?
