Subject: Resignation after three moves?

Message:
I recently had a much higher rated opponent resign after three moves here:

gameknot.com

What could possibly be the purpose of throwing this game? I don't understand how rating manipulation could benefit anyone on Gameknot, especially after GK instituted new anti-sandbagging rules for its tournaments.

Surely there must be a rule against this.

The same member threw another 3 games after 3 moves at the same time. Very interesting.

how about this :

Message:
I once saw another even stranger thing on this site :

A low rated player ( around 1100 - 1200 ) had played a much higher rated player(1900 ) more than hundred times ( or almost ) , and the higher rated player was always winning the games, and always resigned.... all the games where rated.. i never got it....

...

His rating took a one-way climb since early last year. Maybe he felt like his rating wasn't appropriate for his actual abilities. I've felt like my rating is a bit high for my own level too, but I'm compensating for that by entering tournaments that I ought to have no chance of winning.

Obviously . . .

Message:
. . . you guys haven't seen the mate in 23 after 3. exd?? He must have seen it, prompting the seemingly premature resignation :-)

Another variation wanted?

Message:
Perhaps he is looking for someone who will play something other than 3. d4. Or maybe he is just trying as has been suggested to lower his rating. And as has been suggested there are better ways of doing so!!

BTW, I am trying to raise my rating - any suggestions?? I tried to go on a winning streak as that seems to work but I always end up losing or drawing somewhere in the process!!

A more charitable interpretation

Message:
It's possible that he had some unexpected time commitments and too many games going at
once, so he resigned all except his team games. I did something similar once when I had to stop
playing for 3 months because of a need to concentrate on my business. I wasn't on a team, so I
just resigned from everything, took the hit and came back later. I am not saying I know what
went on in this guy's case, only that there are other possible explanations.

Good Plan~! Winning usually does that ...but can be difficult to stay with. BUT, there IS the workable alternative. Just don't lose another one, and only take draws with higher rated players . . . }8-D
