Subject: Strung out tournaments

Message:
Have you ever played in those tournamnets that last an extra 2 months because of one person? You have two games left and they are both with the same person? Well I believe a nice feature would be to allow half tournamnet credits. Once your number of games being played or remaing goes under 10 or even 5 you are given half of a tournamnet credit. When you have two half credits you may enter another tournamnet. Of course when the other tournamnets finish several months down the road you are given full tournamnet credit. What do you think? What this be difficult to do programaticlly

My thought on it:

This is CHESS. Chess is supposed to be a thinking game. All of the players that are at the top of the leader board in rating are though who out THINK thier opponent not who moved fastest. It is the same in OTB tourney the ones that win ususaly take more time than thier opponets. Combine that with this is CORRESPONDANCE(sp) chess and that some times people have LIVES OUTSIDE OF CHESS and thier will be one our two players in almost every tourney that seems to clog up the works.

Back when I first started here on GK. I would play in a tourney and notice this. But now as I have gotten busier at work and spend more free time playing space empire(check it out if you haven't(side note that is a shamless plug not spam, bit of a diferrance but anyway)) I have noticed that I am the one clogging the works on tourneys. It is not intentional. I don't get up in the morning and say how can I clog up works of total strangers today. I don't have time for that(see above). It is just I want to play my best chess and I don't have all day to spend on here. I wish I did but I don't.

Now I can certianly understand people who spend more time on here. Wanting faster games and not want those like me clogging up thier works. I have been on both sides of that coin. But to all the people you want fast chess might I suggest going to a real time chess site and playing. Or if you like it here thier are several way to join in new games. Surley with all the options you have of joing a game on here you can join enough game to keep you occupied and not whine about the slower people here.

I have played fast and slow I know boths sides We have beaten this horse to death now I hope this post gives both fast and slow players a better perspective of each other

Thank you
