Subject: mini tournement rules
Message: Hello.
Why does a player that is removed from a tournament still rank in
the tournament and gain points ?
Therefore the only effect of player "removal" is a forfeit of
unstarted games which gives an unfair advantage to slow players
that might not have played the removed player yet if he would
have beaten them.
Sounds confusing ? It is.
Sorry if this material already answered/dealt with elsewhere.
regards,
bob

Message: So a player that is "automatically withdrawn from the tournament due to a change in their rating" stays in the tournament rankings ?

Message: I think if any player is removed, then ALL games that player has completed, in-progress, or to be played should set to losses or draws. Yes, even the completed game the player may have won. Any other result is clearly unfair as Bob stated above.

Message: ELO rating points should stand for games completed before the player was "automatically withdrawn" since these were contested and completed games, but all game results, for each side, within the affected MT should be set or reset to losses (zeroes) for ranking purposes. That way a withdrawn player's games will not figure at all into the results; it would be like they never even happened. I do not think the games should be reset to draws (1/2 point to each side) since that, conceivably, could put a withdrawn player into a points-winning position.

Message: The sad truth is that GK has too many problems with regular tournaments to deign
allot 3 minutes to mini tournament problems.
I guess the wording just needs to be changed to "this player has forfeit his remaining non-started games due to a rating change". This would accurately reflect what happens. No mention of withdrawal should be made because this is false.
Thanks for all your replies - I feel better that this issue is shared.
