Subject: Suggested Additional Rating System for TeamsMessage: How about rating teams by games won as a percentage of total games played? Suppose you and I are taking examinations in competition with one another. I "score" 100 and you "score" 50, you are plainly the superior test-taker if you had only 50 questions on your exam while mine had 400! You correctly answered 100%, I correctly answered only 25%, but my "score" is higher than yours. Such a system would have to provide for teams with fewer than X games (otherwise, teams with very few games would consistently dominate the top ranks were they to win, for example, two of their first three team matches). In looking over the teams table, I think the ratings would be quite different were a percentage system used. |

It is very easy to calculate. The percentage score is defined as follows: 100 * (wins + half of draws) / total # of games To calculate it, all we need are the values of the columns headed "Score" and "Games" in the teams table, and the following simple formula: percentage score = 50 * (score + games) / games |
