Subject: Captain's Dilemma

Message:
I've been matching my teammates based on "average ratings", which seems to be doing fairly well (still a bit early to tell, though--I'm new at this). However, I nearly fell out of my chair looking at one challenger's difference between his average GK ratings and his elo score: his elos were about 300 points higher!

Which would give us a more even match when answering challenges: pairing my team up by average rating, or by elo?

Until GK changes how......

Message:
the pairings are done we will be pairing using GK
ratings. We cannot pair by Elo yet since the
GK system for pairing is not set up that way.

True... sort of...

I think that the Elo system....

Message:
when implemented will be the better system
but until it is we must go by the GK sysyem.
As far as fairness goes they are equally fair in judging established opponents for playing in a
match. The Elo rating system is a truer measure
of a person's chess strength. Most player's GK
rating will be higher than his Elo rating.

As long as the comparison of opponents are
made using the same system you will get
a fair comparison. You cannot compare one's
GK rating with another's Elo rating.

The pairings are done by the GK program
which compares the player's GK rating.
Until that changes it we must use the GK
rating. Chuck

here comes the pain in the ...

Message:
my last team matches i reviewed and paired, i matched as usuall with old GK rating system (+-50points) and copied the matches into notepad with ratings. pulled then every single players profile up and wrote then the ELO ratings beside it. all of a sudden i figured then that all sent players where like 100-250 Elo points higher.
i then made a different match, explained the other captain what i did. he agreed and we then let it run like that...

GK Ratings

Message:
Until some programming is done on Mike's part, we are best to stick with business as usual, which is the GK ratings for establishing matches. We can use the Elo as a tool like we use the team games versus all games, but I personally feel its way to early to be discussing matters of this nature with the Elo since its still very new here. The average ratings as well as all the other extra features are all just tools we use to research players, the bottom line is GK ratings when we line up matches.

i knew this was coming!

Message:
please all capts. dont cross over with these rateings when setting up matches. lets dont get into that or we will never be able to set up a match. look at gk rateing and team win percentage. leave elo out of this. :)

lol

Message:
Believe me, stinky--I'd like to! I had a pretty good system going, but the difference between average rating and elo confused me. My elo rating, for example is slightly higher than my GK rating. But they're close enough that it doesn't matter. But when someone's *average* GK rating says they're at 1300, and their elo says 1600, well--I think you can understand if I hesitate before putting that person against one of my own team members.

Until I clear that up, I think I'm sticking with average GK, though. See you guys in about a week. Keep pushin' them pawns...
