i would also like to welcome spurtus
asking about himself and what to expect from the team i got this answer:
A bit about myself, computer games programmer for Rockstar. Keen OTB chess player / semi serious club player, I have a unique closed style of play, although I'm looking to try something new.
I've been playing DrGandalf who seems a very decent and friendly chap, I thought I'd apply to play for his team in the hope to find similar minded people. You do get overly serious and aggressive people on this site, and I'm not really into that, just here to enjoy good games and perhaps get some good advice to improve my OTB play.
From the team I hope to play well for it, and get sincere advice when playing team members, and contribute to any discussion or analysis.

i decided for him, because i think he's a nice guy. before he applied for the team i noticed him a few times before, which i think makes him stick out from the other players. he will be able to fill our hole we have in the 1600-1700 range. he looks very consistant and rather draws than resigns.
in the next few days i'll also send some new challenges out and hope we will get some new pairings.
sorry, but no time/need to update the old team/rating/score/improvement table, the old one didn't change by much.
the solution for the last chessgame is:

I would also like to start a team tourney. please let me know (priv msg) who is interrested and if you would maybe like to start the tourney thematic. i would be interrested in unorthodox, which i focused on a lot the past half year (halloween, cochraine, smith morra, budapest, alapin,...).
I'm happy to see how the team recovered after olympio resigned all his team games. our rating and team score are now going up again. how about top 10 in summer? :))

Hi its me spurtus!, as my message says I'm looking for friendly but competative games.
Anybody that wants a game here please just challenge me, although I'll probably only take on another 2 or 3 games right now as I've got a busy OTB schedule this week.
I'm looking forward to team matches, and I hope I dont let you down. But I'm not that clued up yet as to how team matches are organised.

Nice to see that our team is recovered...
My question is related with "draw offer" situation. Actually, there are double draw offer from optimist in our match. I didn't find any rule related captain's rights about suggesting acceptance or declining the draw offer. Is the decision only mine, do my captain (or other teammates) can interfere with suggestion (only accept or decline, not game analyses of course)...?
I'd like to see your opinion about this situation. If you think that it's not against site rules, feel free to look at games board #1086853 and board #1086854 (I think that both games are close to draw, but I have some chances for win and our team needs points) and post your opinion (draw or not - without analyses. :-) ) here, or send message direct to me. I have enough time, optimist have postponed games today, :-)...

we are not allowed to talk about ongoing games :(
however, i never liked to accept draws in open games, especialy during the middle game. in any game where i see the smallest chance to gain a single pawn, it will go on for me (after gaining the pawn i can still draw at any time). i see those games more for the team than for me, games for myself, some challenges, i rather resign early because i care about fun, but ratings... games for the team i usually fight until "the last move" is made.
no experimentator i can't tell you to draw or keep on going, it's up to yourself. but if the oponent offers you a draw in both games, there is a reason for it, and i don't belive that it's a draw, i rather believe that he may lost one game for sure and the other may gain.... have seen it too often.
i didn't look at the boards for longer than 5 sec, but if you think you can win at least one of them, keep on going.
again, thats what i would do, the rest is up to yourself...

I played for many teams in the past years (live chess only), and captain has right to suggest any player in his team to offer draw, accept or refuse draw, even declare chained draw (table 1 and table 4, for example), and those captain's decisions is something player MUST OBEY (else he would be banned from team in the future)...
I think that would rise the role of the captain and made team spirit stronger. Every decent player wouldn't accept help from other person (not completed analyses, but even suggestions like "change queens", "move b-pawn as soon as possible" etc). I don't ask your help, just captain's judgement. Maybe this option could be suggested to Mike, to incorporate this in site rules.
By the way, I'll play some more...

... i would like to hear about that in the future, but right now, one of the TOP rules on GK is, to DO NOT DISCUSS ABOUT ANY ONGOING games, how does it comply with that?
now my friend, what would you like to have?:
a captain that is desperate to help you in your games (regardless if your rating is 1100 or 1900+, please take a look from the oponents side as well...) or a captain who is banned from GK (worthless?).
clear it with mike first (once more, i would love to help you, i have a plan in both games, one i think is draw (maybe open) and the other maybe won, as i guessed before...)
what am i supposed to do?
what would you do in my place?

how about all you others, what do you all think about it as a team?

finally we are ready to go on vacation.
we will be going up north, will do the inuit games, will be ice fishing, carribou hunting, skidoo racing and see all our friends :)
i have no clue if we will have internet access from up north, where no cell phone works or car goes to...
so i postponed my games for an entire month.
the past days i was busy working out new team challenges for you all, so you will not run out of games ...hopefully...

lost my job last week because of that and just found out.
i'll be up here for another week or two, sorry about that.
please don't get mad or upset about me because of team games, i'll try to find a computer with printer and do some printouts, so i can work offline as good as i can. up here they think it wores the computer out if you use it more than once a week. and it's all long distance or satilite conection.

I'd like to know what happened with our team. i can undestand that our captain kai_sim is out of duty, but it takes too long for my taste. He lost bunch of games and several hundereds rating points, too...
Maybe we should consider some changing in our team behavior including new team captain (there are no new matches too long), or our team could stop to exist. If you feel like me (or else), please respond here. I'm afraid that if things continue to move this way, some people could leave the team (I consider this option myself).

I think we should wait, before we do anything. I´m sure that Kai - our teamcaptain -will bring things in order when he return home. I know that he has very much concern for the team, and until anything else is proven I think he is a good captain. When he return home I´m sure he will get everything going again as before.

I see that we think allmost the same, but you know, this team status take two months. By the way, kai_sim few months ago joined my mini-tournament; he played a move in our game two days ago, but didn't take part in this discussion...
I can wait, I agree with you that we had one of the best captain here at GK, but I see that we don't have any captain now. I'd like to see things fixed, that's for sure.

Hi guys. I'm taking some time off GK to concentrate on the final year of my PhD and to recharge a bit. I've sent kai and LotRs messages to that affect and asked to remain part of the team until I return. I'll come back and say hello from time to time. sorry to tell you guys, but i had to remove devinosity (too many accounts) and deman (too many accounts, timed out in two games) from the team.
devinosity told me a little while ago allready, i left him on the team, because he kept on playing his team games (and was winning them too, +3 points). i told him, that if he wants to come back, he can allways feel free to do so.

Well, as you an see from my profile, I am only thirteen. I'm just looking for a team with friendly, active members, and a team that will try to get as high in the standings as possible. I'm not a great chess player, but in the time ive played at gameknot, ive moved from around 800 - 1200+. There isnt much to say about myself, other then ill be active, and like to play losing positions untill they are definately lost. I do have a number of consequtive timeouts but that was a very busy tim, that I can't see coming up again. And thats about it, thanks.
PS: My team games percentage is very low, but that includes games agaisnt players much higher rated then me."
into the team as a replacement, so we don't lack on a rating verriety when new challenges are coming in.

and the team is doing better than ever. check out the teams table and you'll see that we are almost back in the top 20 (to be exact place 21) with our score, and regarding team rating, we are on 16th place!!!
looks great to me, and in summer, why not try the top 10, but for that we'll need about 150 more wins. sounds reasonable and even more possible if some players could pick some more matches up (which means to increase their max games count).
i'm still up north, hoping i'll not time out in one of my league games, i'm actually hoping that some player will leave/retire the league, so i can get a full point per game and will be able to be the first who'll reach the A divisions (currently B1).
i'll return on about 14th-20th of march, almost 3 months longer than expected, but it IS WORTH IT!!! I LOVE IT UP HERE SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!
if you guys don't know where to go, because hawaii gets too boring, try north canada, but dont expect a running computer with internet in an igloo.... ;-p
you guys are all doing great in your team matches.
one more reminder please: please set your max team games in your preferences as agreed with me.

i miss "up north" allready :)
i'll try to get some team games against the higher ranked teams, would be great if we can win them all. exsisting games are now more important to win, because the high ranked teams lose more points for a loss. look at it like your personal rating, it allways hurts to lose against a player that is rated 300 points under yours.
so, lets get back to our boards and kick some butt!
