team motto!

Message:
What type of team motto do you want?

A light one like: Life is a game, we just do it better!

Heavy ones like:

Vlad's Impalers - beyond nature and belief!
Vlad's Impalers - it's a life, not a choice!

Some borrowed from the Air Force Squadron:

Vlad's Impalers - fast and furious! (vampire F52, 1956)
Vlad's Impalers - fearless forever (vampire N54, 1957)
-------------------------------
Anyone have any ideas about what they want for a team motto?

John

Congratulations!

Message:
Zormaster plays (4!) games in a row with my team mate Duffy (elo 1200) of Phoenix rising. A newly started team. I like to congratulate her and the team on probably 4 glorious victories! I especially enjoyed the bragging about it on your thread.

These Team-Matches ...

Message:
are getting much to serious for my taste.

1. Quote from lexherman "Five things about chess: 1)...oh yes... it is only a game."

2. Rating is rating, obtained through timeouts or by "real" losses. We have had billions of threads on this topic. GK rules are clear to lose 100+ matches in a row by timeout brings your rating down, worst case a 1000 points (e.g. brunetti). I personally think this is stupid but the vast majority of GK players I have discussed this issue in the forums think itīs just fair and that a timeout loss has to be counted just as a loss by play. So itīs also just fair to gain points against 1200 ELO players being a 1200 ELO player "by timeout".

3. I do like the GK systems how to match players for team matches and I do see its advantages (because I like to play against players of my strength/rating) but is a system like this common in CC? Itīs definitely not in OTB as we all know, and nobody is complaining! You just present your team may it be 500 Elo points stronger than any other team and than you play.
A friend of mine is playing at the moment in Germanys first chess-league on a lower board between 6 and 8. He faced 2 GMs and 2 IMs so far with e.g. GM Gurevich (2644) with around 400 ELO points more than he got. Donīt ask him about his score, but thatīs real teamchess-life.

If we will come to a team-league once (which I would appreciate very much) we would have to change our team-system anyway (as we have also done for the GK Olympics).

In my view the current system is no real team competition, "discussions" like the above do prove this. Match settings, player line-ups and strategical team discussions (e.g should board 4 take the draw or play on) considerd as unfair and tricky at GK, are for my taste an essential parts of team match fun.

Best,

drdesoto

Hehehe Soeren: As you know we Bavarians do sleep on the floor (of course outside the house), eat raw meet, and drink at least 20 pints of beer a day - my friend has made 1/2 out of I think 7 so far. He is not longer allowed to sleep outside the house on the floor. He has to sleep naked on a frozen lake (please donīt ask him about his score - he is crushing skulls!)

On the makeup for the boards . . .

Message:
Just thought it might be helpful to know how the boards are set. I choose the members of the challenge, but after that GK software selects who is on the boards -- highest rating has the highest board. That is why Zor managed to get the fourth board recently -- her rating was undeservedly low. (And no other active team member had a lower rating.)

Open reply from the lower boards

Message:
To players with high ratings, wanting to play, on the lower boards.

Your confidence has been an inspiration to this team. You have helped create
a group of players with not only excellence in skill and results, but also transcendence in character. You have helped create a team with players from different nations cooperating to complete against other groups.
We have all lost at one time or another, but as one of the higher rated players on this team told me, playing against higher rated players will improve my game.
You have earned your place on this team. Even if you do not win, make your opponent bring his/her best game to win. Make it take everthing they got to beat you. That is what we ask of you. We are proud of you and proud to be part of this team!
So back to the upper boads, have fun, and remember fearless forever...
John

Friends, Romans, Dutchwomen . . .

Message:
I will finally be making the move into my new home. It is back to my boyhood hometown -- (and get this Zor, it it the Home of the Pennsylvania Dutch). It will be official on Feb. 1 (which for Americans is also Super Bowl Day).
I will be moving into part of a former church -- about 1800 square feet -- that is 167 square meters for all you metric types. So you can call me Captain Pius Bee.

And the answer is . . .

Message:
that I have asked the team members of most nations to translate for me. I had a problem being able to insert cyrillic. All we need now is someone with the British version. :) If anyone has any other languages to add (hint: Portugese, Croatian, Czech or an anglicized Russian), let me know.
