Hi,
Another idea for the team:
We could each select and open game, as the most interesting we are currently playing. Then the other team member could, if the like, follow it as it unfolds. When finished, this could be the game where the other team members are invited to comment on (post mortem analysis).
My most interesting current game is King's Gambit:

I'm afraid i don't have any interesting ongoing games yet; but i'd like to comment on tall dane's current game.
i would recommend an additional sacrifice after 5 ... g4 with
6 Ng5 h6
7 Nxf7 Kxf7
this supports the basic plan of the kingsgambit as everything attacks f7 (Bc4, O-O or Rf1, Qf3 or Qh5 etc)
i have to admit that this line was not my idea. it was (in a very similar way) recommended by GM Max Euwe. Next move, also by him would be 8 Nc3 for white, which doesn't invite black to develop it's pieces (like p.e. 8 Bc4 probably would).
what do you people think of that line of play?
Tall Dane, what did make you play 12 Bxb5? i think it's quite an interesting move.

Comment: (jumpcueman) I know you are much more experienced than me, but I was reading on this and the game of gallagher - hresc 1991 and shulman marciano1997 they played 4. Nf3. Does that make sense to you?
Comment: (tall_dane) 4. Nf3 is a common move... I prefer e5 which is more aggresive.. For black, I would suggest 3. f4 d5(!)

This is a very interesting recommendation for Fisher's defense for King's gambit (1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 d6 4. d4 g5 5. h4 g4). White has many good attacking chances... However, I am a little unwary about black's other option: 6 f6 (!)
6. .. f6 7. Nh3 gxh3 8. Qh5+ Kd7.
How do you feel about that line? How would you play:
9 g3, Qe7
9 Bxf4, Qe8
?

Is anyone finding any particular part of the vienna opening interesting. I have a great book here by gary lane.
After 1e4 e5 2Nc3 there are two main responses according to the book:
Nf6 and Nc6.
Nf6 can be followed up with:
3.f4
3.Bc4 Nxe4
3.Bc4 Nc6 4d3 Bc5
3.g3
and for Nc6:
3.f4
If anyone wants more depth on any of these or the names of the games from the book to take a look at just let me know. The vienna opening will be the our object of study till the end of june. Please also offer suggestions on an opening for july.

In my first game with dewsbury i played the black pieces.
since the whole vienna line reminded me of the kingsgambit, i went for
2 ... Bc5
that is also known as a good reply to the kingsgambit (when declining it). it then provides you with a pretty nice and save set up. it hinders white to chase away the Bc5 by playing d4. Just an idea

first of all, here i have an example about tall dane's question for 6 ... f6 in the fischer-defense, kings gambit:

maybe, i should have played on. and i'm not sure if 7 Nh3 was the best move, but it opens the g-file. maybe 7 Bxf4 is better (followed by 7 ... fxg5 8 hxg5 which opens the h-file) A. Nimzowitch wrote in his book "my system" that a-, b-, g- and h-files are good outposts for rooks (whereas centre-files, like c, d, e and f are good outposts for minor pieces).

next thing: jumpcueman asked me about endgame-strategy in the following game:

i'm no endgame-expert. but basically, i guess this game can be won (by white) with the following next moves:
54 Rh5+ Kc6 (... Kb4 55 Rb5+! ...)
55 h4 ... etc
in this position, white will eventually promote a pawn sooner or later. that's all i can say for now, sorry :-)

Black opted to decline the gambit in the Vienna:
1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. f4 Nc6
However, after 4. fxe5 Nxe5 5. d4, White has traded a f-pawn for a center pawn and a tempo. After: 5 .. Ng6 6. Bc4 Bb4 black threatens exchange and pawn capture. I thought all about either 7 Qd3, 7 Qf3 and 7 Ne2, but settle with
7. Qe2 (!) which seems more aggressive: in some variation the e-pawn needs support, Knight can go to f3 and White reserve possible 0-0-0. After 7... O-O White moved 8 e5 (!) which seems to increase the pressure on Black.

Im curious as to why you didnt just play your pawn on move 6 to e5? Any reason for not playing that? It seems a good move to me as his knight has to go back into the first rank or be taken

"5.h4 it was better to play 5.h3" I thought 5 h4 was standard in Fisher's defense [?]
Comment: (scorpio379) Yes 12. Bxb5 was not bad. You could of made some very dangerous combination with the two knights. I think there was some possibility for a fork... As for 5.h3 or 5.h4 they are both equaly accepted, but I prefer 5.h3 because this way you don't need to retreat and loose one move.
