Subject: TIMEOUTS!!!

Message:
Ok, just wanted to know how everyone deals with players that timeout. I have one guy I am ready to boot because he time out of half his games, I sent messages and emails to warn him to get on the ball for the rest, but he did not. I also have another player that timed out on a a bunch of games, but followed this up with a nice checkmate. What ways does everyone else deal with this issue.

If you see me online send a challenge, we can work out the matches before we sign off.

It's difficult,

Message:
I find it disappointing when any members of our team timepout in games, but I alwasy like to give them the chance to explain, as these things sometimes happen without the player having any real blame.
If a player timed out continually and regularly, I personally would remove them from the team, as I feel they can get the whole team a bad name with other teams, and the team is more important than any individual player.
Fortunately, no one on our team has offended in this way repeatedly, and players that have timed out have generally apologised and explained why it happened.
It's a really difficult position to be in and I don't envy any captains that have such problems.
If anyone has a good method of handling the situation, I for one would be interested to know it.
Good luck!!
Chris

It's easy,

Message:
Our team has had a firm policy since day one: timeout and you die! We accept no excuses period. And every single perspective new team member is clearly told this before he joins the team. There are just way too many ways to avoid them, i.e. postponements, internet cafes, public libraries, laptops, there are even phone connections to the Internet in hospitals, having a friend postpone your games in an emergency, etc. that there really are very few valid reasons for timeouts. Where there is a will there is a way. So, if a teammate times out a game, even one, he is shown to the door. If if feels his banishment was unjust he can then plead his case and the team will vote on his reinstatement. Our team is currently +164 in timeout wins versus timeout losses and we have had to boot only three players in eight months for timeouts, covering nearly 1700 games. I hate to share this somewhat obvious secret but I am willing to do so because I expect that most team captains will ignore it and continue to be lenient with timeouts. Currently our team is ranked Number 6 in Elo ratings and Number 20 in points. Without our timeout wins we'd be in the negative. Any further questions?
