Subject: Pawntification:WHITE
Message: "Pawntification - Chess by Committee" board #2180346
This shall be home to the docile "White Alliance", governed by apastpawn. Here the
philosphies of the ages shall riddle off discourse, as to the wishful downfall of Social Dude's
(abegtrup) "Black Pack", as the 3rd official MT of the Pawn Stars commences!
Notice:
This is an attempt to place two of our higher ranking
players against each other under public scrutiny, hopefully
providing an interactive learning experience for everyone.
All at GK are welcome, but be forewarned, we, the Pawn
Stars, are a bit eccentric, so if you are use to a
dry, formal discussion, this may be a bit too much for
you...

Message: What will it be, trusted "White Warrior" alliance? Shall we begin with ( e4 ) or would anyone care to research Social Dudes weaknesses in the openings. He has an impressive win/loss record. I'm open to suggestions. Any favorite openings out there?
Let me apologize up front. I may not be as weird, excuse me, I mean demented as abegtrup, its the medication you understand. It keeps my thoughts subdued. Tell abegtup I could give him a name of a good shrink.

9/17/2004 00:52:22 [ report this post ] | e4, e4, e4...
Message: Ok, Abeg beat me up in the intermural tourney so it's time for some revenge. >:D
1.e4 afficionado here! :) Plus it seems from looking over abeg's games that his repetoire response here is 1...e5 and that his preparation for the king's gambit 2.f4 is less than sharp! ;) (various counter-gambits, declined variations, fischer variation etc. but not the dangerous bayonet lines)
So I recommend 1.e4 e5 (if played) 2.f4 and see where we go from here. If he avoids King's Gambit with 1...c5 or similar then we already have him in different territory and the advantage is already ours!
Alternatively if you're not the sort of player who goes for blazing tactics (Why do you play 1.e4 then? :p) then I've seen him play into a disadvantagous opening after white plays the Vienna: 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Nf3 d6? and white can play 4.d4 with a good game. But he's also gone for the 4 knights from this position so I don't think that his repetoire here has quite settled!
Don't worry I'm sure the weirdness will be forthcoming, this is a Pawn Stars forum after all. ;)

Message: ...i'm in the white team.
Panda, you are 100% right with e4 vienna fischer gubbins and it is just what Abeg is expecting.
So I suggest a bit of English just to confuse him. 1.g1 d5 2.Bf2 e5 3. Nf3 and he will never go for
e4 cos he is nasty like that. That will give him the upper hand, the centre of the board etc, then
we sit back, sacrifice a zebra to the gods and hope that he times out.
better make it a standard e4 opening

Message: Even if we do play the KG, you might still find yourself waiting to see it played by "experts". ;) Suggest if you're interested that you take a look at the mini-tournaments list... there's usually at least one or two mini-tourneys themed around the KG (or sub-variations thereof) at any one time. It's a popular opening because it leads to a hard struggle from both sides. :)
If I had the time I'd get you some links but I'm sure you'll dig up a fair number just browsing through the list. And if that fails, there's always past tourneys!
You could even join one of the tourneys. Maybe you'll find the KG "floats your boat"... ;)

Message: Never been so fond of the bishop's opening complex myself. It's full of beautiful traps and gambits, no doubt, but if Black survives the opening he doesn't seem to find himself in quite such choiceless positions as after the Spanish Torture beginning 2.Nf3 Nc6... >:D He has more chance for counterplay and we can't be allowing that, now, can we? O:-)
Boss, gru88y, if you fancy 2.Bc4, I'm right with ya. When I get home (maybe bext week some time) I've got some analysis of interesting gambit lines in this opening which I'm happy to share (though I won't be printing it out in this forum, mwa ha, sharing tactical lines and traps in the opening defeats their point. We three can swap it via messages until the game is done :p) But I'm sticking with 2.Nf3 for my vote! Definitely my preference. :D

2.Bc4, ... that's the fat pawn parallel with the little pawn? I don't like to move my fat pawns
before the horsey/cow they are holding hands with. They will either come back with Bc5, Nf6 or
the the old favourite d6. (which is a total folly, but the sort of bluff Abeg would go for.)
There again a camel is a horse designed by committee, so I'm still for 2.Nf3

Message: I appreciate all the noise. Finally we are talking. Thought this was going to be a lonely forum thread. Even Admiral Jeffery was courteous here. My usual responce to 1.e4,e5 is indeed Nf3 only because it can transition to many openings ie: Italian game, Guico Piano, Bishops openings, and Scotch openings. My recent tendency is to the Scotch Gambit. 2.Nf3, Nc3 3.d4, e4xd4 (the best reply) 4.Bc4
This may please almost everyone as their is Nf3 their and Bc4 also. but no f4 at least not yet. Indeed the pawn is sacrificed but it is usually returned later by Qxd4 and the idea is for the superior developement and intiative.
Anymore ideas. No hypermodern/fiachetto plans?
I'll try out that yahoo thing above.
