| sualksnh 10/22/2004 02:34:59 [ report this post ] | timeoutsMessage: Hello Team - In my opinion we should think about changing our policy regarding timeouts. In our team's profily Kai writes: "We all don't like when there are time-outs, it's just frustrating for every one else on the team, so you better will have a goooooood reason for that and let everyone else know about it..." Obviously this did not work good enough. For the future I suggest to expel timeouters from our team as a rule. Exceptions should still be possible, of course. I propose following procedure: If a member of this team (i.e. our Captain) gets notice of a timeout this should be made public in this forum. If the timeouter provides no reason at all he/she/it should be expelled within a week. If he gives a reason we should vote via messages to our captain within a week. A relative majority should be sufficient to expel the sinner. Best regards, Klaus |

| lionwizard 11/21/2004 16:16:11 [ report this post ] | timeoutsMessage: In a message Sualknsh wrote , dated 10/22/04, If the timeouter provides no reason at all he/she/it should be expelled within a week. Though im not on the team any longer , perhaps you should add a stipulation to this rule ... For instance and exactly what im referring to ... I was hospitalized for one week ... That was my reason for timing out .. Perhaps the captain Kai_sim and inuk shouldnt chastise the player that timed out if they give such a legitamate reason as being in the hospital, a funeral or a family matter .. This practice might avoid future altercations... Like if there was an earthquake .. i wouldnt be surprised if the player on your team wasnt asked while you were stuck underneath the ruble and debry .. why couldnt you locate a laptop??? ... food for thought ...... Take care and happy gaming to all |
| sualksnh 11/22/2004 03:42:38 [ report this post ] | Dear LionwizardMessage: My proposal for a new rule has not even been discussed. It's probabaly deemed to be bad and nobody wanted to point that out, lest to hurt my feelings. Well, I'm grateful for that. To my understanding the old rule is still in effect. We shall not timeout and our captain will decide on the consequences of any violation of that rule. Take it easy and don't waste too much time thinking about your former team. Best wishes, Klaus |
| bucklehead 11/22/2004 14:30:39 [ report this post ] | I for one...Message: ...am satisfied with the captain making these decisions on a case-by-case basis. I would favor some public announcement of timeouts, along with any excuses that get tendered to kai_sim ; but in my (limited) experience on the team, this has already been done without instituting a written policy on the matter. I'll trust kai's judgment; and of course if there's a point where a team member thinks he's made the wrong call, well, we can make a stink about it here in our forum and encourage him to change his mind. |
| vandy 11/22/2004 22:14:14 [ report this post ] | Personally...Message: I think leaving it all up to kai_sim is fine, but I also think it places a lot of needless pressure on him. A hard and fast rule is easily understood and easily enforced without the possibility of someone thinking kai was somehow playing favorites. Many teams state that NO timeouts are allowed (and I would lean this way). Another way could be to allow only 1, 2, or 3 timeouts before being removed from the team. There are, indeed, valid reasons for a timeout but they are few and far between. |
| remmelijn 11/24/2004 07:14:27 [ report this post ] | time outMessage: When you play a lot off games and somehow you where to late to move it is very likely that you loose more then one game. I appreciated the opportunity to hear about someones reasons and having some basic democracy in the team. As I wrote before in november time outs where not a big problem. No specific rules are requered and I would like to think that I am in a team where people take their own responsebility. |

I am happy that kai asked me to rejoin the team to play 7-day-games. I am pretty sure to have a nice time here and hope that I won't loose to many games :/ Greetings, thomas |
| kai_sim 12/17/2004 20:27:15 [ report this post ] | hi Message: everyone!!!! i'm back in the forums!!!!!!! the ban is finaly over and i'm able to post again!!!!!!!!!! except the few timeouts we have had in the past days, i think the team is doing GREAT! however, it's the attendence that pulls us down right now. as i've said before, the team now is on 'vacation' for one month and middle or end of january i'll start setting up team matches again. in the meanwhile you all should try to do the best possible out of your remaining team matches. after that we will be back in full strenght and kick some serious butt again. i'm talking with two other players i would like to have on the team. one is an old lady from germany who beat me once or twice in blitz otb and the other is a friend from montreal. both would be available for team games only. i will see what i can do... i would like to take the time to thank kraveirus for linking his past team games and being ready to discuss them with the rest of the team. also, if anyone get's banned from GK or from the forums i would like to know! in a case like that please send me an email to: simski@sympatico.ca so i'll be able to address it to mike and find out whats going on and what we can/could do about it. sarah and the baby are doing fine and we are expecting the baby any day now! (will be some great chess player with both parents as active players!!!) i'll let you go for now, thank you for your time and good luck with your games! best regards kai |

In this process we'll consider the applications from players who are reliable and serious about TEAMWORK. Our team's maximum capacity is 15 people. Our team has 2 rules; 1) Time out percentage MUST not exceed 5% for the new applicants. For the members, team game timeout percentage MUST be below 5%. The team members who pass that limit (in their team games) will automatically be removed from the team. 2) You need to keep in touch with our future captain tolgas or our future manager lordoftherings and with the other member if possible as we believe communication is a key point while trying to reach our goals. | remmelijn 1/29/2005 07:55:45 [ report this post ] | queensacMessage: Message: Nice winning sac chees, did you prepare it before or after 36. Ne3? Two moves in particular are a bit mysterious to me. Why did you play 17. Qg4 and 27. Rf2? Thx for showing your game I would like to see more interesting material here... |
| chees 1/30/2005 05:03:40 [ report this post ] | RE:QueensacMessage: I did had it in mind before 36.Ne3. But had to bloch the way for the black quuen, in order to free the rook at f2. During the game I remembered the game between Bent Larsen and Tigran Petrosian, from Santa Monica 1966. Althoug Larsen took a pawn at g6 when he sacrificed his queen. I played 17.Qg4 instead of 17.Qf3 (which I believe is what you find mysterious) because of 17.Qf3,f5. Which I think was better for black. I thought if I played 17.Qg4 at first I could make him move his knight. And he did. At the same time I prevented him from exchanging his knight at e5. About 27.Rf2, I played it whith the intention to double my rooks at the f-file. Perhaps I should have prepared it with 27.Kh1 to prevent the binding of my rook after Qd4. But to lure his queen to d4 also makes Ne7 unprotected. Anyway at that time of the game I had the clearly better position with several possibilities. |

If you want to be shy and stay on your bench that is fine by me :) Together with Ken and myselff makes already three interested. That is about 10% of the available brainpower of the 64 squares. The match is to be between chees and the whole 64squares team. Since there are no grandmasters around here I suppose every teammember can make a valuable contribution to the game. I don't share your worry that the game could become less appealing to lower rated teammembers. We all have been in boring games and If the team doesn't move in time then I will simply loose a few points. I only think that there should be a minimal amount of interest to start the game in the first place. After that I supose this still is an open forum. Free for teammembers to join as they please. |
| bucklehead 3/05/2005 05:12:39 [ report this post ] | Fantastic ideaMessage: I think the chees consultation game is a fantastic idea, one for which I'd like to show my support if not actually signing up to be one of his five victims (feeling very pressed for time lately). I might, however, like to be able to toss in my two cents occasionally, and I'd definitely like to follow the game, both in terms of moves and the ongoing analysis. And so I have some questions that I'm sure have already been well covered: *Who will be his primary victim? It seems there needs to be one "captain" who will be entrusted with interpreting the will of the team. I assume this will be our esteemed remmelijn ; but in this case I also assume it will be an unrated game. Might there be an alternative of getting Mike to create a "World" account with its own actual rating? I am doubtful about this, but it strikes me that this sort of game might catch on, and automating such a thing via GK polls could be a nice innovation. Whether Mike has any interest in adding this kind of feature is doubtful, I know, but just wondering if any feelers have been extended. *Will there be an open forum for ongoing analysis? I'm sure chees is enough of a gentleman to stay away from one (not that he would need to look in order to beat us, of course) and it might make for more dynamic dicussion/argument. The issue there is more one of public participation of non-team members. Will it be against the GK code for someone to comment on an ongoing game even if the purpose of a consultation game is to comment on an ongoing game? Pardon the sentences--it's early. Anyway, I think this is a terrific idea, and I would wish both chees and the nascent Consultation Team good luck and great chess! |
