Subject: TEAM CAPTAINS PLEASE READ
Message: Greetings fellow captains,
As most of you are aware by now, we have lost a dear member of our group. fliszt of Phoenix Rising has passed away. The 'Gameknot Related' forum has many of the details, so I won't repeat them. I have contacted Mike and asked him to consider the addition of a new link on GK. The GameKnot Hall of Fame (or some name similar) would be a page where we could list our friends who have passed over to the other side. I think it would be a great way to honor his/their memory. Please consider getting behind this proposal. I urge you to post your comments here or contact Mike directly. I personally would be willing to help cover some of the expense involved (if any) and I'm sure some of you guys would as well. Also, please help me assist any members of Phoenix Rising who might have questions or problems concerning the status of their team. We owe fliszt that much. I'm so sad that he is gone. I've never gotten so emotional over the loss of someone that I never even met before. Chess is the thing that brings us all together, and the way that we stick together at times like this is what what makes this game so fulfilling. As our dear friend used to say..."Good luck to you and your exceptional team". I mean that as well.
Thomas - captain of Southern Chess

Message: I think that is an excellent idea. It would great to have something like that. I have spoken to fliszt many times, not only when setting up team games but when I needed advice as a team captain. He was a genuinely nice guy and always willing to help others. I think it's the least we can do.

Message: Such sad news - my condolences to all his family and friends. He was one of the nicest folk I dealt with at GK and he will be missed by all.
I think the idea of a hall of fame (not sure of the title) is a great idea. It would be such a shame for people who had such an impact and influence at GK to just fade from peoples memory. I say go for it. Fliszt is not the first player highly respected at GK to pass away, and it would be nice for them to be formally remembered.
If i can help in any way, just let me know.

12/09/2004 03:28:54 [ report this post ] | i see no problem with it
Message: except....(im not trying to be negative but) what if there is some misuderstanding and someone who isnt really deceased is put there , then mike would have to go back in and remove them. maybe not a big deal then again maybe it is. of course if mike doesnt mind i most certainly dont you just hate to think of someone abusing this feature maybe as a joke they decide to delete an account so they kill that one off just to have him put in the hall of fame. i guess maybe there should be some type of vote or something to get in?? i really dont have a problem with the idea and im not trying to take away from a good cause , just thinking of what might happen. hope it works out. :)

12/09/2004 06:06:55 [ report this post ] | Fliszt Rest In Peace
Message: Fliszt was one of the greatest people I met here in Gameknot. He always was polite and always was giving us his props.
I´m with tag, there should be a Hall Of Fame; and as astinkyfart points it may be a bit of a problem to Mike if it´s not well organised.
My proposal is to Name it Fliszt Memorial Hall Of Fame (as Naismith´s NBA´s) and make it as other Hall of Fames from other sports, where there´s no need of being passed away to get into it, and put the people who has merits there.
Fliszt should be the name of the Hall because it would be instated in his honor.
Mike... Let us know what you need us to do in order to make this HOF true.
My condolescences to every one who knew Fliszt, to every one of his relatives and friends, and all of us who knew him through here, I´m sure we´re grieving as much as I am.
Regards,
Guillermo

Message: What a wonderful idea for GK!! If Mike is willing and able to pull it off, I think it is a wonderful idea to have fliszt in there, along with some others.....
As far as the name, obviously, being his teammate and friend I would be partial to the proposed name, but I think what Tom would be most proud of is being nominated to be in the hall, such a woderful idea!

Message: Thanks for looking =)
Thanks Thomas for your games, your time here and my condolences to all his family, friends and team members.
The Hall Of Fame is a good idea, every year we lost some people at GK so it is a good place to remember them.
I send my teamplayer optimist a message that he accept the draws in his games against Thomas.

Message: My fellow captains...
I´m sending this Message to Mike; maybe it would be nice if all of us could send the same one, or one similar.
Dear Mike:
Due to the inmensely sad news about Thomas Bopp, our beloved fliszt, passing away last tuesday; we mourn and sent our condolences, but we all agreed that there should be a way in order not to forget neither Thomas nor any other player in Gameknot who has the merits as to be reckoned.
Fliszt Memorial Hall Of Fame is the name we thought would suit perfectly for this. A place to visit the ones who are or were making the history of Gameknot.
What do you think? Is this possible?
Let us know what we should do in order to help you...
Regards,

Message: I totally agree that we need a place where the GK community can remember those who passed away. But I don't know if Mike has the right to do it. May be some familly member won't agree... But it is important for our community not to forget them. onlyapawn , maxpayne , flitz ,... may you all rest in peace.

Message: It sounds good to me. Why not. Let's see what is Mike's opinnion. As said here before there may be some problems. If someone dissappears from the server how can you know what really happened. After all how can you be sure who is there behind the nickname. On the other hand....does that matter. If there is a loved nickname lets put the name into Hall of Fame whatever he or she is/was in his/her real life?
What about orginizing a huge Fliszt Memorial Tournament? Any ideas?

12/10/2004 22:42:34 [ report this post ] | A message from Mike.........
Message: Mike has informed me that what we request is simply not possible. While he too mourns the loss of fliszt, he tells me that GK loses several players each month and they are all equally important. Verifying their circumstances would be too difficult to attempt. Mike suggests that someone, possibly a member of Phoenix Rising, create a page with a link to their team page that remembers him. I'm understanding, yet dissappointed at this decision. I guess that each of us will just have to honor fliszt in our own way. I for one will be starting an invitational mini for team captains in his memory. I encourage the rest of you to do something similar. Good luck to you and your exceptional teams.

Message: Thanks for starting a MT for some of the team captains - I think it will be nice to remember fliszt in some way - hopefully a more permanent method can be arranged some day - maybe we could have a regular fliszt memorial MT??
Anyway, I am honoured that you have invited me to participate, and will be delighted to take part. It will be nice to be able to play some new opponents and together remember a great friends passing.
Many thanks

12/11/2004 06:13:36 [ report this post ] | Fliszt - MT
Message: I have been away from the forums for a while and did not even know about fliszt until I got the invitation to the MT (thanks tag1153). We often had difficulty making matches due to his team's average player rating, and nearly always I would write him with something like: "No problem, there's always tomorrow." It's too sad.
Tag1153 I am sorry Mike cannot work out your request. As they say, it is the thought that counts. It is trite, but it is true.
