Message: .....but its certainly cheered me up a bit, now that I've managed to haul my sorry arse of the bottom of the team standings.
There I was going along, and all of a sudden I've remembered that your meant to win chess matches. I have relapses every now and then, but hopefully, I shall now lead a long and happy life, somewhere in mid table, a bit like Liverpool FC.
And I have a ticket to go and see England crush the Welsh in the 6 nations at the Millenium Stadium.

2/03/2005 05:46:19 [ report this post ] | Hard facts hurt.
Message: Actually, I think the team has gone down hill since I joined. Plus the team coach seems to be asleep at the wheel for most of the time or busy wooing, courting, fondling?, sucking up to our fearless leader. Threatening is not coaching by the way.
Its obvious to me that our best path to success and world domination lies in playing lower rated players (this might be tough to do as we are at the bottom of the barrel), playing the mentally retarded (ie. Navy Losers), bribery of gameknot officials, intimidation of our opponents (this is where Spren's threats would come in handy), and/or wholesale cheating. This coupled with stylish team uniforms like the infamous head welly would be sure to turn us around.
Actually thinking before making moves would make a welcome change as well. Though this could be a near death experience for many of us.

2/03/2005 11:18:33 [ report this post ] | That's not all that hurts... come a little closer
Message: Well Mr Scott, first of all why don't you come talk to me when you're in the black and I'm in the red, and not the other way around, if that ever happens. Second: a whole lot may be obvious to you that is not actually what we in the business refer to as "reality." For one thing, the team rating has absolutely nothing to do with the rating of the players we play but the ratings of the teams we play. I don't need to go into this here since it's been discussed ad nauseum in our forums as well as many, many others, so tip for you is go read how it works and then come back and complain not to me but to the Captain Who Is In Charge Of Setting Up Team Challenges. Who will proceed to ignore you if you're lucky, and if you're less lucky will tear your head off. See if we wait around for only the challenges that are going to be advantageous to us, we'll be waiting a long time for any challenges to come along, and then wait some more, because unlike yourself other captains have got the system sussed out and are of course only looking for challenges that will benefit their teams. So let me save you the trouble by telling you that the Captain does absolutely the best she can in setting up challenges and if you don't believe me you can try your luck with her. Now, since you brought it up, I'm taking your words to heart and I'm about to kick down with some Coaching Tips. So you and everybody else (but especially you) just get yourselves ready and listen up because if you miss it... I'm just going to repeat them.
(1) If you want to help the team rating, try winning some games.
(2) If you can't do that, just enjoy being on the coolest team on this place.
Finally since you seem to want to get personal, let me say that you might want to see a shrink about that Ron Jeremy thing of yours.
PS. b****ing is not coaching either by the way.

Message: Thanks for setting me straight Spren, I appreciate the encouragement as always. I find myself suddenly overcome with enthusiasm after your pep talk. I'll endeavor to win a game one of these days as well and I know the Captain does her best to set us up with solid competetive matches. I still think I'd be better off playing the mentally challenged or being beaten with carp.
Don't hurt yourself playing with your axe and remember what I said about thinking.
Very best regards,
Your Daddy, Ron Jeremy.

2/13/2005 03:30:43 [ report this post ] | Dead weight, live bait
Message: It is left as an exercise for the reader to figure out which is which. Well thanks Dr. Laura Socialdude for bringing us all back to our senses and burying this forum deeper than Dick Cheney's Energy Policy Meeting Notes. Speaking of which, I'm back from my Undisclosed Location and I take it SD is back from his week of debauchery and Double Duck Variations... (dibs on the movie rights so you guys can just forget it)... so I'm here to resurrect this (OFFICIAL (dammit)) Forum That You Thought Was Dead.
Announcements:
- Social Dude rightly points out that he has FINALLY done something with his Social Dude Zone and dumped something on that Web Parking Space With His Name On It. Well it's not much, other than what was there before, it's a picture of the back of some guy's head. Apparently we are to assume that's himself. Anyway, not to be outdone, as Back-Up Captain I've decided to move into the BAT (Boringness Assessment Test) Zone which will henceforth be known informally as THE COACH ZONE or THE CO-CAPTAIN ZONE... or something snappy like that. Redecorating starts today so be sure to drop by some time next week.
- as CAPTAIN XENA has pointed out, we will be taking the BAT much more seriously as an admissions tool from now on... only entries that score "Chuckle" or better will be eligible for admission to the team... that is once we have room again for non-paying (referred to in the vernacular as "deadbeat") members again... if that ever happens. In fact, after glancing at the team roster just now, I'm starting to wish we had done this earlier... much. As of this writing we have all of 15 (fifteen) members in positive territory... and we have let's see... 00011011 holy **** that's 27 (TWENTY... SEVEN (XXVII)) members in the negative column, or, in the vernacular, "the red." You guys, I may be going out on a limb here, but I think you are who SD was referring to as 'dead weight' in the above message... but don't worry... lucky for you he's not the one holding the axe. I do, however, have one word of advice: Mix in some wins. And don't time out. And the first person to point out that that that's eight words will be visiting Beheadsville real soon.
LEST YOU THINK that this is all hot air and this axe is just a prop, I would like to point out that we have in our midst the 213th (which is pretty good)-ranked player on this site, apastpawn, who is, it must be said, virtually begging on his profile page to impart some of his Massive Chess Wisdom™ on you all... and by the looks of things some of you need it. Myself included. I would like to see him step in and do some pontifcating, which would free me up to concentrate more on my threatening. As soon as he gets the memo about this I'll be in talks with him to work out the best forum for delivering his message unto the masses.
That's all for now... hey I heard that sigh of relief... watch it.
yours, etc. TEAM COACH (and CO-CAPTAIN) etc. etc. srpen.
PS. While there are currently no plans to behead anybody JUST for being in the negative column, it behoves me to remind everyone that every time you lose a team match, you are supposed to go to confession... I've been checking up and I know some of you have been chessinning out there and skipping the absolution part, so... in the booth with you... directions are on the XENA XONE portion of the web site.

The first game of mention is another one of my own but I would like to thank 120kz for the reminder on the theme. Seems a couple of Shame Game posts ago that he had a similar swindle. Who says old dogs can't remember? The unpinning of a knight theme. Shows that a knight usually belongs at the bishop 3 spot once one castles. In both our games this was lacking and exploited.
