I have given this a great deal of thought and have decided to step down from the team captain position and as a member of the team. My brother and I founded the team nearly two years ago. I have seen a lot of ups and downs and have had a lot of fun meeting new members and pushing for the top spot. Today we sit as the #12 team by points out of more than 200 teams and I am proud of all our work.
Still, my heart is not in it like it once was. My work has become an increasing demand on my time as you can see by my average move rating (which went from about 2 mins per move to about 2 hours per move over the past 6 months). I have begun to view team-related tasks as a chore rather than another exciting aspect of GK. That certainly is not good for the team.
So I think I will "retire" from the team and pursue just a few private games with the friends I have made over the past 2 years on GK as well as some occasional tournament play.
I hope no one sees this as a betrayal or anything other than a recognition that I should no longer serve as captain when it has lost its magic for me.
I would invite everyone to consider the position of team captain. It really can be very exciting---it has lost its charm for me only because I have done it for so long with increasing pressures in other aspects of my life. With the new team-matching system it does not require nearly as much time as it did in the "old days." But it does require some dedication and care in choosing matches.
If anyone wishes to serve as captain please send me a note and/or post on the team board. If more than one person volunteer to serve then I would suggest a team vote.
I've had a great time for the most part with the team and wish everyone the best.
