Message: The last couple of posts were as follows....
Stonkie
I've just taken a look at this website's captain forum... I thought it was a tournament of some kind, but it turns out to be a discussion center about what should team captains do in certain situations and since I have almost no knowledge of the way a team is managed, I doubt it would serve the team much if I joined the forum (the other forums are locked with a password I do not know so I didn't pick up the wrong forum)... I do not mind joining, but could you tell me more first?
I forgot to say a couple of things just now...
First, I saw the team's mini-tournament is almost finished, I would like to be part of the next one, so don't start it until I can finish the one I'm in please (which is at 89% completion and 11 players... and it's endless!!!).
Second, no, I haven't just learned the expression "some kind"...
Third, I just won my first team game in a very long while and a second one is coming real soon.
Lochess Monster
I don't like the idea....#'s 1.2, or three don't mean a thing if we have to "buy" a good team........I like the world-wide makeup, the personalities, the different skill levels, and the humor of Night Fever. We'll lose our "charm". That;s like that other team trying to give Baja a "signing bonus" to abandon ship.
But most importantly.......I can't see another 30 or 40 people....trying to figure out what Stonkie is saying............
p.s. ....... this is only a rumor.....but someone mentioned that Stonkie is really 81 not 18.......he just forgot how old he is.......nursing homes do that!
Just in response to Lochess’s last post .......... Dan you weren’t supposed to make it public that I sought money to sell on Baja……or any other players :)))) We are not a selling team. We are the biggest. This is a rumour and simply not true! So ignore these comments. By the way if anyone wants to sign a contract!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thoughts please: Any ideas for the opening position in the next mini tournament.
Stonkie I will hold off until you have finished your current one………
In the second mini-tournament check out the battle for second place, looks very interesting :) -> gameknot.com. Place your bets now.
Finally check out the game of two Nightfever’s big guns: -> gameknot.com

Message: Who mentionned it to you, I never thought I knew someone sane enough to remember my age...
There are no official counts about it but I think we almost all agree that merging is a bad idea, although if we can get an exception about the free members limit it would be worth it to take another survey (I would still be against it)...
About the Arsum Empire forum, I haven't got any answer from any of their members, so I guess they never meant more than an off-GK captain dicussion board. I will resume with my normal activities and fill my game list once again (I will leave my maximum number of team games to 6)...

Message: Is it just me being a whinge, or does anyone else find team games set at 5 days a move or more a bit of a pain ? For instance; im playing a team match with someone from ‘Warriors of truth’ at the minute on a 7 day move, and he’s waiting until the very last minute to make his moves. It’s very annoying, especially if you’re like me and only take on a few games at a time so you don’t get *confused.* ! I just won my second team match against Misterw this morning though : )

Message: Results of the merger election:
For...................2
Against............16
Thereby there is a unanimous decision in favour of merging.... Doh I meant against.
The other captain has been informed that there is no interest at all in a merger. The plans for a superteam will have to come from within.
In view of the merger result, can I make a request that when players have matches and they get talking to the opponent and that opponent is not in a team, just point them in our direction....It would be good to get up to about forty players.
Notice to all players: If a player timesout on more than three games, then the player will automatically be put to a team vote as to whether we keep them. I think this is a fair rule.... The reason for this is we have had a run of three players timing out in four games and its costing the team. Although we are up to sixth we could be well clear and challenging for fifth, leaving the Alek's in our wake.
Hollie: I have taken note, and will ensure you only have three day matches in future.... Never really thought about that before. The idea behind five or seven day matches was to ensure that our players didn't timeout....Will have a word with the Warriors of Truth captain because I want you to have team games, given that you win most of them. :)
Stonkie/Anyone...Any thoughts on another opening position for a inter team mini tournament or shall just we have one from the start.

Message: Those 2 timeouts lost us 20 points yesterday! Im wondering why though there is someone on the team who has had 40 timeouts though in the past anyway.....It just annoys me as the game i won yesterday only got the team 6 little points, but that game took me months to win, and all the work (and all the other team players work for the past few days,) has been wiped out by one person not making their moves. Just hope there was a good reason! *End of rant* - And sorry i have been ranting for the last couple of days, I will endeavour to say something nice in my next post!

Sirmalz - Thanks for the post. Nice win against Ostrilo, desperately needed as we have had a bad of results. Understand work is more important. If you just want five or seven day games let me know.... :) It will help you avoid problems.
Nightsight - point noted. Spent yesterday putting together a list of everyone’s preferences so that I don’t make the mistake of giving seven days to people who prefer three day games etc. Large team games will always be five days because of the complications of many players so let me know if you dont want to put you forward for these matches.
If any player is having difficulty with a slow moving player, let me know and I will give the team captain a nudge to try and get the player to move quicker.
Well done against Konni, hope you can keep winning so quickly.
Life never used to be this complicated :(.

INTERESTING POSTS :
Chess ressources : I would gladly help with what I can "chess ressources" (anyone who gets "ressources" just has to post it, no need to assing anyone to this job...) begining by suggesting you to go on the Chess coaching club's forum and grab any information you find pertinent such as this web site's adress : -> www.chesscafe.com (I only read the 5 first collumns of Novice Nook and I feel much more intelligent :) ! Everyone praises it anyway, so it might be good).
Team mentor : I could also help as "assistant team mentor" (I have little time to myself so I cannot be more than a poor assistant, but just ask me to analyse some of the weaker players' most interessant games and I'll do two or three per week). I can't say much about a 1800's games, but I probably can help 1600s and below, although complicated games teach me more about openings and stategy in general than simple games... (It's quite easy to analyse games using Chessbase and Fritz).
OTHER POSTS :
Team managment : Only the captain can accept or reject players, so I can't see how this post can be given to anyone...
Mini-tournaments : Non-paying members can join only 1 mini-tournament, so this post requires someone with membership.
Covert operations : New ideas do not have to arise from a single person, this needs the support of the whole team...
Front page coordinator : No one here could help me regarding html, so I guess no one knows web pages' programming language (I got a very poor basis, not even enough to make a simple page...). That's annoying for a team near the top to have no homepage of it's own...

Message: Five Englishmen boarded a train just behind five Scots, who, as a group had only purchased one ticket. Just before the conductor came through, all the Scots piled into the toilet stall at the back of the car. As the conductor passed the stall, he knocked and called"Tickets, please!" and one of the Scots slid a ticket under the door. It was punched, pushed back under the door, and when it was safe all the Scots came out and took their seats. The Englishmen were tremendously impressed by the Scots' ingenuity. On the trip back, the five Englishmen decided to try this themselves and purchased only one ticket. They noticed that, oddly, the Scots had not purchased any tickets this time. Anyway, again, just before the conductor came through, the Scots piled into one of the toilet stalls, the Englishmen into the other. Then one of the Scots leaned out, knocked on the Englishmen's stall and called "Ticket, Please!" When the ticket slid out under the door, he picked it up and quickly closed the door

Anyways can't wait to see it (starwars ep.3 that is) I hope there's a lot of action, not long scenes of romantic wibbly-wobbly (I invented a new word!) as in ep.1, that annoys me to death. But if there's lot's of female nudity it would mean Paul Verhoeven post-edited it <- not making any sense again, I know. But I tolerate romance alongside nudity... as long as there's lots of action. (or a good plot, but that won't be the case since everybody knows what the ultimate outcome will be...) unless you're 7 years old and haven't seen the first episodes (ep. 4,5,6) yet.

Would someone please tell me what it is? How it is used?
Can i refuse to take part in a game using this?
Or maybe it does not apply to team games??
And i too have a opponent (Neogeek) waiting until the final moments before making his/her move.
It seems to be that, if you get the upper hand in a game, the longer it takes.
However, with it timed at 3 days per move, it's not too bad.

Night T3 (Nightfever Mini-tournament 3) is already on, but I discussed with Vixen of the posibility to hold a second one if there is enough people wanting one (it was limited to 11 players), so you should ask her and if she can find enough players, she will probably start another tournament...
Conditionnal moves :
You can use the conditionnal move option to choose a move by your opponent and your answer should that move be played so that it is played right away in your place as long as your opponent doesn't go wander away from the lines you had entered... You can enter many lines so that should your opponent not follow your main line, it might still follow a secondary one. I wonder what would happen if you had two conditionnal moves play differently after the same move from your opponent... You can't refuse that option to your opponent, but you are not forced to use it (Obviously!).

en passent is French for "while passing". This silly rule has a history: in the early days of chess pawns could only move 1 square ahead from their starting position. So the games went: 1. e3, e6 2. e4, e5 the players got bored of this and decided that the pawn henceforth could move 2 squares ahead from their starting position. (this saved them a lot of time) However, now a pawn from it's starting position (2nd or 7th row) could pass pawns on the 4th or 5th row, without being hit. So they thought up this patching-rule. Pretty silly if you ask me...
If you didn't know this then you might not know:
* if a pawn gets on the other side of the board you don't have to ask for a queen (sometimes asking for something else is better!)
* if your king is in check you can't castle
* if your king has to move over a field where it would be in check to castle, it can't castle.
* if your rook is under attack, you CAN castle (some silly GM's still hesitate about this... silly people)
* if your rook has to move over a field where it would be under attack, you CAN castle. (again some silly GM's)
*if your king or rook have moved you can't use them for castling.
And for all you checkersfans, when your opponent cannot move any piece and he isn't in check, you haven't won, but it's a tie (stalemate)
Here to annoy (and sometimes educate) you all,
Rick.
