Subject: team captain etiquette question
Message: I am a new team captain, and I was wondering about what is considered bad style about the position...
* For instance, when I challenge a team having its captain online I often get no answer at all... is it bad style to withdraw the challenge after ten/twenty minutes?
* Sometime, challenges are declined without any explanation, is it bad style?
* I've noticed that some teams doesn't accept challenges from team below a certain ELO level, is it bad style?
* Other teams ask me to challenge again when my team will have more games... but if everbody did the same the team would never get any games, no?

Message: not all captains are alike. some are great people others are a-h***s. just behave the way you think is appropriate and you will eventually come into contact with the better captains.
good luck with your new team. send me a team challenge when you are ready.

Message: your profile has some specific rules about your challenges. maybe some read your profile and think its too much trouble to challenge you? as far as you not getting responses , not sure maybe they are busy or could be rude i guess. sometimes i dont respond sometimes i do depends how busy i am. i suspect most captains are this way. if a captain challenges me and i dont respond and he or she withdrawls i think nothing of it. i just figure they got tired of waiting for me or found another challenge. either way no hard feelings.

Message: Your team is new with less than 20 completed games. This is probibly the reason more experienced teams wont play you. Once you complete the majic 20th game, you will break into the regular teams standing list. It will then be easier, hopfully, to acquire team games. Just remember your opponets team elo will play a great part in your team elo rating. Some Capts wont play below a certain elo for the same reason. If they lose a team game to a team with a much lower elo rating, their elo could lose 12-15 points or more. Same is true if they win, their elo would only increase by maybe 3-5 points. Its not worth it to them. Hope this explains some things, you will have to learn through experience. Good luck.

Message: You ask:
"For instance, when I challenge a team having its captain online I often get no answer at all... is it bad style to withdraw the challenge after ten/twenty minutes?"
You need patience, that may make it easier to get matches. Just because someone is signed on does not mean that they will look at your challange. If they do look at your challange, they may not be ready to answer in ten/twenty minutes. If you cancel your challange within a week, you will burn that bridge for sure.

Message: I always try to respond immediately, where possible, whether accepting or declining but there are occasions when I am too busy or just about to go offline. In those cases I generally send a message back to the captain saying that I will check it out later. A certain amount of patience is required.

Message: .....but after a while, you develop relationships with certain team captains that you both appreciate and enjoy talking with. I just want to go on record as saying that some of the most congenial captains include maszola (Hungarian Wanderers), astinkyfart (GBH), xena (Pawnstars), manhattan (NY Lovers), and many, many others........you'll figure it out:)

Message: It's true that I was (still am) a bit impatient about getting team challenges... I will try to be a bit more patient from now on!
On a sidenote: this team business take me more time than expected...
