Message: Hi everyone. Thank you all for having me.
Some intro to who I am:
About Me: I'm Ron Goldstein - A New York City boy, born and raised (ala Neil Diamond)- born in The Bronx. I'm a mathematician/computer scientist and have enjoyed both and academic and business life. As an academic, I've been a professor of mathematics and computer science at various universities such as: Univ. of Notre Dame; Univ. of Miami (Go Canes!!!!!!!!!) - where I took early retirement; and Univ. of Warwick (England). Presently, we have a software consulting company (-> www.themedwiz.com) and live in Miami, Florida, USA. I'm a sports nut - favorite teams are (naturally!!) Canes, Heat, Dolphins. I have lived at various times in England, The Peoples Republic of China, Italy. Last, but not least, I'm married to a gorgeous, young, blond "trophy" wife - Donna.
My favorite quotes:
"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him do the backstroke." -- me "If your opponent is drowning, throw the sonofabitch an anchor." -- James Carville "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." -- Albert Einstein "Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive. And don't ever apologize for anything." -- Harry S. Truman "A man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything." -- Edward Phelps "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -- Edmund Burke and finally: "I'm proud to be an American." -- drron - One of many.
I'm addicted to this type of chess and love meeting, chatting, and making friends from all over the world as a side effect of playing this web-based chess.
I'm looking forward to being a member of this team.
Ron

I'm fairly new on this team, they are a very friendly bunch...and always active in the forums. Have you joined " The Lost Social Foum " club yet ?...some of our more " opinionated " team-mates are members ( myself included )..gives us an opportunity to chat about " non-chess " subjects.
Best wishes from across the pond..

Message: Of course you are a natural winner, and that involves far more than chess games. You won the hearts and respect of virtually every team member here, with one exception, and she is gone forever now. So winning a few games is of secondary consideration, and you will do that also, soon enough. :)

12/13/2005 14:35:28 [ report this post ] | My dear young lady,
Message: Luck deserves no place in assessing chess results. Your games, by and large, will be won or lost by a combination of skill, experience, concentration, application, and ATTITUDE!!!!!!!! The last of the afforementioned virtues is the one most likely to tip the scales in your favour. Sometimes you teenagers take a while to ingest the fact that attitude is not a fortuitous thing, it is the result of a deliberate decision. And while I am in a mood to reveal some normally guarded secrets, here is a beautiful law of life for you; Nothing will ever happen unless and until it doesn't matter!!! So stop allowing it to matter and start enjoying the actual doing. :)) By the way, everything I say happens to be true.
Here endeth the umpteenth lesson from the chronicles of Muppywisdom! :)
