Subject: Return Of Pawn Of The Dead (In Shocking 2D)
Message: Welcome to our second birthday forum. Yes it's all true, it is exactly two years sometime -next- week that The Pawn Stars™ became ..um..another team on GameKnot. So, in honour of this auspicious occasion, I have decided to come out of semi-forum retirement and impart some more of my team's wit and wisdom upon the denizens of GK. Feel free to post but hurry because this forum probably won't last very long.

*New Social Dude Wanted*
Applications are now being sought for the position of Team Social Dude. This is a very important role within Team Management and involves the ability to dream up meaningless and time-consuming "activities" that no one ever takes any notice of. The successful applicant should be full of their own self-importance and, ideally, be willing to rent (at considerable personal expense) a post office box for team mail (although there is none). Alternatively, they should be willing to post their home mailing address on the internet and not mind ...even enjoy...being stalked. If this sounds like you, or anyone you don't know, please send me ( Xena ) details of your qualifications and relevant inexperience in this field. A ten buck bribe would be regarded most favourably. I also wish to advise that this position will be advertised externally.
Please note: Applicants from Tennessee, or surrounding areas, will not be considered under ANY circumstances.
MORE NOTE: Armin Begtrup ..he of Great Fame and orange shirt was our previous Social Dude but he has wandered off into the great wide yonder of Tennessee. EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE PAWN STARS but you want to fill his size sixteen shoes, please apply to join the team and we'll take it from there.
*Advance Notice of Upcoming Possibly Vacant Positions*
Team Captain: Highly exaggerated sense of self-importance and extreme other-worldy- beauty are prerequisites. No post office box required.
Team Mascot: Only the seriously deviant need apply. Long, floppy ears an advantage.
*Team Table*
A few days ago we reached number 16 on the GK team table, prompting excited messages to me from some team members. We have since slithered down to 35 ..so you can just stop now.
*Today's Lecture: Team Forums and Their Relevance to Postmodern Society 101*
Recently I have received several messages from outsiders (that is, from people what -are- not in this team) bemoaning the fact that they post in our forum but virtually no one in our team ever replies. I know that the forums have changed for the worse but non-posting team-wise is nothing new. Now everyone knows what a kind and understanding Fascist Dictator I am, so I will NEVER make it compulsory to post in forums ...not this week anyway. The purpose of the forum is to exchange ideas and information for the benefit of the team as a whole...blah...blah...yada...yada. I am, therefore, disappointed... most saddened even.. that the opportunity to air your twisted point of view is not being taken advantage of. *stern look* So next time you get the urge to send me an incomprehensible personal message, designed to waste my valuable time, please consider posting it instead. Or just send me the message and I'll post it anyway, without your consent ( looking at you future-proof :-)
DISCLAIMER: the above statement is facetious. I, Xena, would never post any personal message without the writer's consent ( except for future-proof)

6/19/2006 03:26:48 [ report this post ] | Nice Forum
Message: Now, being an occasional social person at times when " Her Indoors" lets me loose, I decided to surf the GK site looking for inspiration. Waaa, I got lost. I felt like Hansel without the Gretel. Anyway, I ended up in this crazy team forum of yours comprising of lots of chess players, talking about nothing. Now, I said to myself... "Considering this chatter was quite meaningless, there was an awful lot of it". Mmmmm, Lots of talk about nothing, interesting. Now in our team we have "No talk about something", ie. No-one talks but there is always something happening [Not exactly true, the captain does his best]. Anyway, you are probably wondering what is this fellow lover of chess ranting away in our team forum? Well basically as I have said earlier " She who must be obeyed", is out and my vow of silence is temporarily eased. Its a lot like a "Labrador", let of his leash in the park. You know, running around smelling the trees, bounding around, chasing his tail, and doing the things dogs do. Ahhh freedom. Anyway, it's time to cease this drivel and just say, " Good gaming to you all", and it's nice to see chess players enjoy friendly banter among themselves. Now, where was that exit....... Gretel, come back....Gretel, Gretel..............
Kind regards Johnny.

Message: Yes Johnny ( I may call you Johnny, I presume?) we in the The Pawn Stars pride ourselves on being able to discourse at length about absolutely nothing. It's that old Seinfeld thing again...it just keeps happenin'. It's a real shame you missed the garden shed/ jelly beans -in- vodka forum which resulted in half the team, including my goodself, being banned. We have since moved on from that unfortunate experience...but not far.

Message: Xena, don't tease Mr. J. Awesome with litigious talk, that kind of thing can only end in disaster. Keep it real, keep it chess, or keep out (see what I did there - the play on words). Anyway, keeping on the theme of joining things together that should not be together (I'm talking about Chess and Boxing here, not Katie and Tom), I thought this might be fun - music mashups - The Strokes and Christina Aguilera is particularly good:

7/01/2006 00:49:52 [ report this post ] | Nothing Really.
Message: Thankyou Zena for your reply. Yes, you may call me Johnny for that is my name. It’s good to see Mr Future-Proof has opted for Mr J Awesome, ensuring a distinguished title is used. I don’t get that title at home, so it’s nice to have it elsewhere. Though we use no profanity in our household, my wife has a way of referring to me at times very colourfully when she feels she has a need to do so. Many times in fact, it is about “nothing” really. She does this by utilising the use of gestures, movement techniques, and some unintelligible mutterings. I use the selective hearing process at these times with a random use of nods and head shakes to quell the situation. The random use of nods and headshakes has mostly been successful. I remember a time however, when I inadvertently shook my head instead of nodding it, thus missing out on something special. That was sad. Now without being disrespectful, women seem to have grasped the “nothing” idea quite well. The only problem is, they always try to turn it into “something” and never with success though. In the end, it always winds up being about “nothing” really at all. Just a painful process to endure, whilst it is occurring . The thing I’ve noticed most, is that the female sex invariably try to make “something out of nothing”. Men, on the other hand mostly try to make “nothing out of something”. Now, this is the equilibrium which exists and keeps the balance. In many ways chess can be like this also. I’ve studied many great chess games where something was created from nothing. I’ve also witnessed many chess games where nothing eventuated from something. I have landed in the latter region many a time. I always think of a quote from Oscar Wilde when he aptly said “ Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes”. Wow, I should be so lucky, thinking of all that experience I’ve received, on so many occasions. I’m glad my birthdays don’t match that experience. On the other hand I could do quite comfortably using a dollar for each lesson. Savielly Tartakover said “ The mistakes are all there, waiting to be played”. How true.
Your “Garden Shed/ Jelly beans…in-vodka-forum, certainly sounds intriguing. I must admit, I am a tad relieved it was before my time. For though like most men, I like to dabble dangerously at times, I know my limits. Nice that ‘you’ have moved on but have still not lost that original impetus though.
Anyway, I must leave to actually do something, but I’ll leave you with another quote from the great Oscar Wilde. “ I love talking about nothing. It is the only thing I know anything about”.
Kind regards Johnny.

7/26/2006 10:44:08 [ report this post ] | Well,
Message: one thing can be said, this site would be so much duller without the Pawn Stars! So here's to two "good' years for you guys, even with all the ups and downs, (and I must say your downs have been far more fun to watch, not because of any ill will, but because you guys handled it all with such wit and class - you truly are the coolest team here, - note, THE ROOKETTES are the nicest team here, but that's a different posting) and we wish for many more years of having the Pawn Stars around! You all are an outstanding team because, really, you are what a team should be, lively in your dealings and interactions with each other (at least that's how everyone here at GameKnot sees you)!
Well done Xena and crew! (Like you needed us to tell you that, but it seemed a good place to put that so there it is - )
THE ROOKETTES wish you the best.

Message: Our not so lively bunch of late are silent it seems.
If any team members take the time to read this, please let G.K. and myself know you care and give this forum a brief reply here.
How else would we know your breathing?
Any ideas, besides that lame mini-tourney, to spice things up chess wise that is.
I for one, think its about time we had a Team Members Bill of Rights.
We should have the right to refuse team challenges.
We should have the right to ............... please feel free to fill in the blank with your ideas.
Speak up and be heard. Let the revolution begin.

Message: I've never seen this place before! It almost excites me, especially after Johnny made my brain commit suicide. So here I'll be la la la... speaking in the nothings of which Johnny has induced; all for you Johnny! Ok now on to something less fatuous... The pawn stars! A team distinguished by and famous for their attitude. I've been here a little under a year now or is it a lot under a year... hmmm in any circumstance, much to my dismay, I still find myself discovering new activities in which this team intrepidly acknowledges. What have I missed... Soarrehelle is such a sweetie awwwwwwwww! The baby is pleased to have read such kind words. I personally would like to thank you for your inspirational contribution to this thread, for such may have been what has led me here. Ahhh yes, does anyone else feel that vivacious intensification... or is it just my ego only? OH well! Lastly I've noticed a 'Bill of Rights' for team members... can we really get away with that? If so then I'd like the right to have as much team games as possible for as long as I can be a Pawn Star. Nothing further for the moment, so until!
Remember always... fear the baby, for fear is your best option. Trust B :)

Message: Due to overwelming demand and sheer boredom the Shame Game is back.
The following opening trap was played by myself against a much lower rated dude who willingly gave permission for me to post and annotate it.
The link: board #5527020
1. e4, e5
2. Nf3, Nf6 the Petroff or Russain Opening
3. Nc3, Nc6 transposing to the Four Knights Game
4.Bb5, Bc5 alowing Bxc6 as the reply dxc6 opens up things for black and developes the c bishop.
5.Bxc6, dxc6
6.Nxe4? poisoned pawns should not be captured.
6........ Bxf2ch
7.Kxf2 that or lose a pawn etc.
7........ Qd4ch about to collect the knight and be even in material but in a much better position with the strong intiative/ attack to follow as black has lost his king side knight and f pawn along with castling privaleges.
8.Kf3?? why do this, advancing the king has no meaning and loses tempo/time.
8........ Qxe5
9.Kf2?? again loses tempo and is a vunerable square for the king.
9........ Ng4ch!!
10.Kg1?? the worst possible square. Ke1 or Ke2 allows the fight to continue.
11.Qd4ch! forcing mate as the only way out is Kf1 and then Qf2 is mate.
A classic tactic of sacing a bishop at f2 and recovering a center piece.

If you'll go to your "My Games" page their is a lonk at the bottom of the page. Its approx. game 13 down on the list. No way to do a link here. Maybe Xena can do something about that next.
A lesson in how not to handle a beginner's trap.
Would be nice if someone had a game that was shameful for the opponent!

Let us observe the game: board #5585529 a queens gambit opening that is ignored for the sake of a beginners trap. Problem is the black tries to spring it and its usually a white trap. Our mate handles it well and punishes black for such childs play.
