Subject: Jumpy Horse p2

Message:
Next tournaments

Message:
The Jumpy Horse Cup is continuing to rumble on towards a close finish. I still see Killpaul as the firm favourite...but some people in the know see Gez sneaking through to steal it from under his nose. We shall see. Eventually.

In the mean time, while the more thoughtful players amongst us remiain with a number of games to finish, I propose setting a date for the next '2 tier' promotion/relegation system JH Cup -

1st November - what say you all?

I'm thinking 7 and 5, with the top 7 from this tourny (as of 1st November) in the 1st division...the next 4 to be joined by John (Dropov) in the lower division.

Good question, sir

Message:
I see that just to make it difficult, Cosgrove, 8ball and Disolving all decided to split your matches too, which rules out that avenue. Hmm.

What do you all think is the fairest way?

Hmmm, yes.

Message:
why not 6 and 6? might solve the problem this time. if not, maybe we should look first at the games against each other, then most points with black. if that still doesn't split em, might have to resort to rating. or playoffs. but we might all be dead by then.

I like your thinking...

Message:
However, unfortunately the mini tournys only operate in odd numbers - 5,7,9 or 11. We now have 12, so unless there are any budding potential horsi out there, we are stuck with 7 and 5.

Like I said, all players concerned split their matches.

What do you mean by most points as black? I don't follow you there?

A pay off on blitz could solve it should it come to it....

why not

Message:
just use team points?--team tourney, team points. Makes sense to me. I'm pretty sure this suggestion doesn't benefit me at the moment, so I'm happy making it and living with it.

Tie-break?

Message:
Team points I can live with - it probably helps me at the moment, but then again it's taken me ove 130 games to achieve 1 more point than you have got in less than 30 games. How about team rating? or simply average number of points won per game? Just a couple of ideas to throw into the pile.

He also suggested a couple of subbuteo style cups/wooden spoons for the to tournaments. If they won't motivate you, I don't know what will :)

Hello all,

I would like to propose a new member to our team.

Nominee 1 is David Pearce, an ex Prague-ite who now owns www.lighthouselanguages.com, you can see his profile here badgerandimp

He is a good man.

Do I have any seconders?

No seconders needed. A friend of yours is certainly welcome on the team (unless he's from Birmingham too - can't have this team over-run with Brummies ;) ).

Out of interest, did he teach with Gez and Mark (cosgrove) in Prague too?

divisions

Message:
Just a thought about how to split the two divisions. Why not go for the top five in one division and the bottom seven in the lower? That seems to be the way the table is going to be split, so we should at least consider it rather than trying to find a slightly random way to split it 7/5. That said, it doesn't affect me so I don't want to confine people to the lower division without them having a say. I think this would basically screw 8ball as the table stands...

divisions

Message:
Good thinking! seems likely that at least one of the 2 below me will finish on 10 points, if not both. If we start with 5 and 7 instead of 7 and 5 then we now know who's playing in which division. If we increase the stable size later then would that mean 2 promoted and no relegations first time round?

To the budding artist out there

Message:
Thank you Gez for your recognition of my climb to the top of the table. I do fear it may not last long though.

On a different note, I am sending out an invitation for people to submit entries. Some of you with too much time on your good hands may have noticed that some of our rivals (spit) have pictures up on their team pages.

As some of you may know, while I am a chap of many undoubted qualities, I am not artistically gifted...

What we're after is a picture that captures the spirit of the Jumpy Horse team in a way that words could never do. That certain quality that sets us apart and makes us walk a little taller. You know what I'm talking about.

So either get searching for that image, or get your sketch pad out. Let's get ourselves a picture.

New tourny

Message:
So Mr Fawr, you fancy your chances of doing the double. I like your pluck kid - you got heart...and that'll get you a long way in life. But doing it twice on the trot?

I can see a lot of folk out there upping there game when they come up against the big guy.

Neil (dissolving path) - Fear not, sir, the cause of the horse is resiliant indeed. Should you still feel the need to show your remorse, you could always offer the team a Jumpy Horse picture. That's if you get any spare time in Japan.

The picture competition hasn't quite built up the head of steam I was hoping for - surely we are not a team devoid of artists creativity?

New years resolutions

I am embarking on a month of purity this January. This means that for a little over 4 weeks, I shall be desisting from drinking and smoking (and those daydreams starring me and Carol Vorderman). So with a pure body and mind I shall be expecting my chess performances to be equally excellent.

I'm going on a detox diet next week, but have never managed 4 weeks. Best I did was until the 21st Jan, then just had to have a drink. It's amazing how unfunny everyone is when you're sober.

To be honest, I prefer the idea of swigging tequila neat from a bottle, chain smoking and then destroying all comers at chess in a dingy bar as something to aspire to. (g/f, job and rent-paying notwithstanding obviously)
