Subject: A possible new feature for Team Captains
Message: do any captains like the sound of this?
a big delay in matching up players in team games often comes from the opposing captain not being online when the challenge is issued or they log off before seeing the challenge. the issuing captain then has to decide to either wait until his opposite number logs on again or to withdraw his challenge and try to line up another.
my idea is to allow an 'auto-accept' for team team challenges, similar to the option for allowing applicants to join teams. there could be ratings ranges of tolerance, such as: (team) will accept all challenges where individual players ratings do not differ by more then (X) points. with X points being nominated by the team captain. this feature would complement the green availability dots seen on the team page.
does anyone like this? if so post your comments and if there is a good concensus maybe we can request this as a possible enhancement to this already excellent site.

Message: Im sorry, but this is a horrible solution. Many times players have timeouted or have 100% win and therefore I would not agree to their current rating.
Therefore I would never use this feature.

Message: I could see this as a very usefull addition for the captins of bigger teams. I don't really have the time to check every player's profile each time I make/accept a challenge, even though the captains of smaller team propably can. Therefore, I mainly use the rating in the pairing. Of course, occasional timeouts can be a problem, but I'm definetly for this. Mayby each team could choose whether to use such feature at all?

Message: that is my thought maca, that it would be optional/at the captain's discretion.
sorry you feel that way cash1981, would you feel the same way if it was an optional feature?

Message: As long as the "auto-accept" feature was OPTIONAL, I would have no problem with it being implemented. I would never use it for my team, but I guess it doesn't hurt to have it available for those who want it.
I spend most of my team management time searching for teams with available players that match up fairly with mine. I have suggested this before and it seemed to meet with acceptance from the team captains, but it has not yet been implemented. I bring it up again here in the hopes that it will be something the captains will want and message GameKnot with a request. It is only by showing the popularity of an idea that it will be implemented.
My idea is this:
The captain should be able to complete a two column table and find a compatible match. Column 1 is his player's rating. Column 2 is the over/under that is acceptable to the captain. For example, if your player is rated 1525 and you will accept anyone rated 1500 to 1550, then column 2 would be 25. If you have five players you want to match, you would fill out a 5 row by 2 column table and hit a "search" button. GameKnot would then search the teams and return all the teams that have available players matching your criteria and also indicate which teams have a manager online at the current time. Then, instead of searching through dozens of teams looking for a match, you would only have a few that match your criteria. WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!
If you would like to see this implemented, click on the "Contact us" link below, copy the above paragraph, paste it into the message, and let GameKnot hear from you. This feature would probably save me 2 hours a day.

Message: ... for that problem would be a co captain for all teams. then there would be 2 players in all teams who could manage the match up of team games. that would also be a helpful feature, when the team captain has set his vacation flag. the co captain could keep everything working...

Message: The co-captain feature would be terrific! I understand there could be a small problem if both the captain and co-captain (lieutenant?) acted simultaneously and in conflict - by accident of course - but that could be prevented by setting up an "override" power for the captain. Or a more democratic "veto" power for both.
Agree with grandphish on the auto-accept feature - might be a great time-saver for those who dare use it, and should be optional.

Message: For the timeout problem, it would extremely easy to just make it an option to automatically decline challenges from players with a certain percent of timeouts.

Message: ...can be tricky - a player may have lots of them in the past, but his/her current rating may already be back to normal since then. In this case, IMO automatic decline due to timeouts would be unfair to many players; also your own team would miss the opportunity to play a well-balanced match.

3/14/2007 16:04:21 [ report this post ] | My 2 cents...
Message: * Automatic matchup might be interesting but I would never use it. The reason: Sometimes my players ask me to not to get any more games for a certain period because they have to study for upcoming exams or because their pc has broken down. So I keep a separate excel file with time-outs and non-availability of players. It's a bit of work but it's easily checked before matchups.
* The co-captain is a good idea. Only problem that I have: he needs platinum membership as well. And my team being a team of young players, some have a gold one, but that's it. So yes, I am in favour, but it might not help me a lot. :-(
