Team Survey Question #2

Message:
the results of team survey question #2 - beer OR wine OR spirits OR none

beer is the clear winner on 8 votes
none is 2nd with 3 votes
wine is third with 2 votes

and three dudes voted for two or more options - that's an interesting statistic which may explain a few things...

lylalyla said she couldn't make up her mind and she'd get back to me but I think she got drunk and forgot!

something else I noticed, nearly everyone who voted beer gave VERY excited commentary, like: BEER and I'm going to get some now; or; I've been on the bottle for 25 years, it has to be beer. LOL

I mean dudes, please.

Team Survey Question #3

Message:
TEAM SURVEY #3

pick your favourite Super Hero:

Superman - Spiderman - Batman

but before we get down to the winner, here are a few comments from some of our team-mates:

netstv - I'm a spidy man!

relax - that must be spiderman.... my son is suuuch a huge fan!

jy1130 - But seriously, batman. Nothing tops, a butler, a batcave, a batmobile, and a batbelt.

davefish - Batman, although I have no idea why

streetsy - I'd like to add that his comment does concern me a little - Batman doesn't need "Super Powers". He is just a dude with some serious issues. Daul personality, agressive tendancies, likes to dress up in tights and thinks they're all out to get him. A Dude after my own heart. (Did I say that out loud?)

archieb - superman - created by a Canadian

soutone - I would have to say SUPERMAN hands down. Reason being is that he is naturally a superhero the others in question dress up to become the superhero. Superman dresses to blend with the " imperfect humans" thats his perception of what he sees US as clumsy and just not near his physical nor mental attributes

lylalyla - finally making her mind up ;) - i wasn't going to answer this question either because I don't know any of them! Ok, heard of them but that's as far as it goes. But now i'm going along with Streetsy. If Batman likes to dress up in tights, that's my man ;))

but the winning comment goes to dune who voted for Spiderman and sums it all up nicely with:

Superman. well hey it's a little unfair he is invincible. they threw in kryptonite just to make it a competition.

Batman, a little bit of a freak. Dresses up like a bat, now thats one step away from cross dressing! beside apart from a cool car he does not have super powers!

Spidy. A geek made good......nice

so, in order of preference we have:

Batman - 8 votes
Spiderman - 7 votes
Superman - 5 votes

the 'dudes have spoken!

ditchin the loss

Message:
OK here's a question. At what point do you ditch a game and throw in the reisgnation. I generally push that "oh crap that was a really bad move". I even play through "damn I can't win this even if I cheat!" I occassionally keep going through "my King is good, my king is strong...my king is very lonely!"

If my opponent has ticked me off I will play through to the bitter end, otherwise I ditch when the loss is evident. Should I be holding on and playing for the draw ?

it generally works best by playing competitve games against your opponents and not by timing out in all your games

Anderssen's Opening - 1.a3

Message:
I've never paid much attention to what different openings were out there, or what they were called.

So I was showing the wife the team pages and whatnots, and realized that the team "official opening" move was mentioned as being Anderssen's Opening - 1.a3.
I know what a3 is, but why do you guys like this, what are the advantages, and what is the correct way to play it?

The only, ONLY, opening I know is King's pawn two squares up. I would have to look at a board to tell you what square that was, but E5 comes to mind for some reason.

Anyway, someone enlighten me.

Message:
1. a3 is a pretty laid-back opening. White's basically saying, no, Black, you go first. It doesn't attack the center, doesn't open any lines for bishops or queens, and doesn't even move two spaces. It's awesome!

I confess to being an instigator of the 1.a3 plague upon the realm of GK (*sounds of maniacal laughter*).

I think my best 1. a3 game is in an earlier forum (ChessDudes IV or V), recorded for posterity (relatively).
