I cant believe I haven't noticed this before. If you bring up the game page of any team match game you are playing, and look above your and your opponent's names, where it says in white letters "team match" just to the right of that in brackets is the word "all". Click on that and you will see a running progress display of all the team members involved in that match with you. I think that is a fabulous feature and I wonder how many in our team knew about it and how long it has been available, or am I the only one who didn't know about it until now???

Thanks for pointing out this new feature to the team, muppy. This feature was implemented on Jan. 15, 2007 with the introduction of the team ladder and is available for all matches started on or after that date.
For those interested in seeing the progress of all our matches, there is a link at the bottom of the "Team Profile and Stats" page called "Team matches". This link will give you all our matches since Jan. 15 and each can be opened to show the progress of the match. The list can also be filtered to show only active matches, only finished matches or both.
I agree with muppy this is a great new feature of GameKnot and another reason why GameKnot is THE BEST chess site.

Message:
The team ladder is a new feature implemented by GameKnot on January 15, 2007. It is a ranking of teams based on the result of complete matches that were started after January 15, 2007. Once all games in a match are finished, the team's position in the ladder is adjusted according to the following rules:
If the winning team has lower position than the losing team, it is moved up half the distance between their position and the losing team's position; the losing team is moved one position down; (for example, if the winning team was 10th and the losing team was 4th in the ladder, their positions will be 7th ((10+4)/2) and 5th (4+1) after the match);
If the winning team is directly below the losing team, their positions are exchanged (i.e. the winning team is moved one position up, and the losing team -- one position down);
If the winning team already has the higher position, it is moved one position up and the losing team is moved one position down;
In case of a draw, the team with the lower position is moved up by one position and the other team keeps its current position; if the teams are right next to each other in the ladder, their positions remain unchanged.
It is an interesting concept, but it is very unpredictable and volatile. For example, if the 150th place team defeats the 10th place team, the 150th place team will move up 70 spots to 80th place. Also, the rank changes are based on the respective team's rank at the end of the match so that going into a match you have no idea what your risk and reward is for playing a match against a team. Unless the team instructs me otherwise, I do not believe it should be a focal point for the team. I believe total net score should remain our primary concern and ladder rank should join team rating as an interesting, but insignificant measure.
And speaking of team score - we are HOT!

pretty academic system I reckon - using a highly debatable statistical model - I am a devotee of the KISS statistical model - lets get to 300 team game wins ..... and then 400 .... and I think the rest will take care of itself.

Congratulations Bounty Hunters on another successful month. March was our most successful month in team history, 7th consecutive month to finish with a positive score and our 6th consecutive month to net 20 games or more!
We have added 186 to our score since August 31, 2006 and we finished the month as the 25th place team when measured by team score. Thanks to everyone for your hard work.
We completed 272 games in March, winning 150, drawing 22 and losing 100 for a net of 50 games and a 61.0% winning percentage.
29 of 42 teammates finished the month with 0 or a positive score, led by our Bounty Hunters of the Month kapablanca and panga74 with +10.

Be aggressive, but play soundly. Don't take unnecessary chances.

LESSON: OPPOSITION AND TRIANGULATION
Because pawns can only move forward, it is often a disadvantage to have the move in a king and pawn endgame.
An important concept in king and pawn endgames is gaining the opposition through triangulation.
The side without the move has the opposition.
The side with the move is forced to move the king to one side or the other or retreat.
In the above example, if it is White to move, then Black has the opposition and White must move the King to c3, d3 or e3.
One of these moves will allow Black to penetrate the White defense and capture one of the White pawns, winning the game.
Which move should White play to gain the opposition through triangulation and hold the draw?
White moves Kd3.
Black can now win the game:
Black moves Kd5, keeping the opposition.
White must now choose one side or the other, or retreat further. Any of these options allows Black to capture one of the White pawns.
White chooses Kc3
and Black plays Ke4 and wins White's f-pawn and the game.
So back to the original diagram, how does White use triangulation to gain the opposition and hold the draw.
White should first move to e3 (or c3)
Now if Black tries to advance Kd5
White now moves the King to d3, gaining the opposition.
Now Black must retreat and use the same triangulation method to regain the opposition. Black moves Kc6. Note that if Black moves Kd6, White will move Kd4, keeping the opposition and winning the game.
White moves Kd4
and Black moves Kd6, returning to the original position. Neither side can make progress and the game is a draw.
White employed a traingular pattern of King moves Kd4-e3-d3-d4 to get opposition from Black just long enough to hold the draw.
