Hello pentacruze

Message:
Think you have to check out more, what moves your opponent can do after your move, before you submit your move. Then you see what threats your opponent can set up to your pieces!

Nc3 seems to be the best move, stops black Re3, and followed by Rb1 or g1 so have you chance to capture knight or pawn

Timeouts

Message:

Time-outs are becoming a bit too noticable again... Our team rating has dropped just about 100 points in a mere two weeks, mostly due to time-outs... :(

Please remember to postpone your games instead, using this link: -> gameknot.com

Hi pentacruz

Message:
I haven't been at the forum site for a long time but I looked at your games vs krikuletz.

The first thing that strike me by your games is that you make your moves in the opening (first 10-15 moves) without really considering the oppenents position and in particular the last move done by the opponent. In the opening a lot of thing changes and the ability of the pieces are quickly revealing their potensial. So please spend more time on every move in the opening. The second thing that comes to my mind is that you seem a bit reluctant to swop off pieces at equal value. By doing that you soon simplify the board position and makes it easier to consider the position. There are some signs in the endplay positions that you relatively are a stronger player (like me) when there are fewer pieces left on the board. I don't know how often you ask yourself this, but it helps me when I remember to ask myself(I often forget to do it :-) : Why did my opponent make this move?

I dont know if this will help you or you find all this time spending measurements boring but this is my first thoughts upon your request for help.

summervacation problems

Message:
I think it is a good idea not to accept as much challenges as normal during the precious summer months. Most people of the northern hemisphere need too and greatly enjoy to defrost and recharge their energy in the great outdoors during the short summer in order to face a long and cold winter :-)

The Krikuletz case

Message:
Phil is absolutely right. This forum is as bad a place for cheating as any other! It will *not* be tolerated under my captaincy. Gustert was our team captain during the period when Pentacruz played Krikuletz, and I know for a fact that he wouldn't tolerate cheating either. Why he did it in this case is beyond me, but I guess any one can make mistakes...

I've sent Phil and his team "The Black Stallion International Chess Team" a formal excuse regarding this whole matter - hopefully that will be the end of it, but he is in his full right to file a complaint against our team to the GameKnot staff, if he wants to. Phil and I have had a few talks earlier, planning team games and such. He's a good guy, and should be treated with as much respect as anybody else.

I would like to point out that this team forum still is a perfect place for discussing our games - *after* they have been played through! :)

Best regards.
Tommy PixelHermit
//team captain

PS. I'm on vacation in Finland for two weeks, starting tomorrow. During this time, I will not be able to get online very often. Hence, I might not answer any e-mail during that period either - but I will get back home, eventually... :) And as we all do ;) I will of course postpone my games, in order to avoid any timeouts!

cheating!!!

Message:

Is it true that people part of our team is discussing a game before it's ended? If that happens it should stop immediately. It can only happen after a game is finished.

New team matches are in the pipe!

Message:
Summer's been slow, but I will try to hook you up for some games, Peppe. :) It can take a day or three for opposing team captains to accept the challenges, though. Also, the fact that our team is very heterogeneous (with player ratings ranging from 873 to 2185) sometimes makes it hard for me to find opposing teams that can match us in a good way. But I'll do my best... :)

I would like to point out that I keep record of every team game you guys/gals play, and always try to be fair when setting up new matches. (Even though frequent timeouters get a "penalty" for a week or two.) As for you Peppe, I've had you up for several team games the last two months, but unfortunately the opposing team captains hasn't accepted.

Best regards,
Tommy PixelHermit

Team games

Message:

Yes. There are still always three outstanding challenges to other teams: well, close to always, anyway. Nothing much happens though. Maybe our prior discussion regarding cheating (noted earlier on this page) still is an impediment for us. If so, that's a sad thing, since it was a one time event, and should be all sorted out now. In any case, I'm doing my best to get us more matches.

Tommy PixelHermit

New team forum!

Message:
Time for a new team forum. You'll find it under the "Teams" label in the GameKnot main menu, to the left on (almost) every GameKnot page. It's easier to find than this one and has got some nice extra features. A great feature is that you'll see a blue "envelope" flashing above the "Teams" menu every time a team member has posted a reply in the (new) forum, so we'll be able to keep the debate a bit more active. I would like take the opportunity to welcome our new member jan-p to the team, who also came up with the idea for the new forum. Thanks! :)

*This* forum is hereby closed - whereas this forum -> gameknot.com is very much open!

Best regards,

Captain went overboard

Message:

Hmm, it turns out that only GameKnot premium subscribers can post in the new forum. Non-paying team members can only read older posts, but not contribute with their own. Hence, this old forum (where you read this) is re-opened, since *all* our team members should have the possibility to communicate freely with each other.

The new forum will still remain though, with read/write permissions for team players with a premium membership, and read permissions for others.

Best regards,
Tommy PixelHermit

Scandinavian Team - membership

Message:
Hello Team

I just read something that I that I hope do not hope will affect my membership towards this team. I am not a gold- or silver member on Gameknot, but that doesn't mean that I time out any games on purpose. So I very much hope, that I can continue playing on Gameknot as a member of this team.

Greetings
Kimlar

About membership!

Message:
I think it's just for new members, Tommy doesn't accept membership without gold- or silver member, but isn't that something which means that we stop new members, wich hasn't decide about membership yet. And ofcourse can it also be that new members pay 6.99 US dollars/ 50 Swedish krona to be member, and then doesn't keep on paying membership. But I understand that it is a way to stop new team members who plays some moves and then forgot it and got time-outs. As I know have Tommy/pixelhermit use to do as I did, don't give time-outed new games for a while.
Another problem is that silver- or goldmembership just give one 5-day emergency postponement/year which also free membership does, and platinum gives 4 possibilities to 5-day emergency postponement/year. Have self got one after a computer-crash. So if we suggest to GK that 5-day emergency postponement by 2/year with silver, 3/year with gold so could it make us more insurranced for time-outs! I have for the moment myself just free membership!

To be, or not to be, a member

Message:
No worries Kimlar, as Gustert points out, the new rule is only intended for new applicants - all of our present team members are more than welcome to stay on the team, whether or not they are paying for a GameKnot membership. At least, that is true as long as they do not time out from almost every game... :-/

And Gert/Gustert, I understand your line of discussion. Of course our team policy *might* stop undecided members from paying for a Premium Membership. However, my job as team captain is to see to the best of our team - not to fill up GameKnots' treasure chest... :-)

I also agree with you regarding the problem with the emergency postponements. However, there will probably not be any change in GameKnots' policy regarding them, since the GameKnot staffs' primary job is to fill up their treasure chest - not to see to the best of our team...
