Subject: Jumpy Horse p6

Message:
Time for a new message thread thingy. The last one can be found at -

-> gameknot.com

The last comment by Gez was as follows -

<< Good to have ya back, chief.

Message:
It was dark.

Now then.

Horseshoes.

Eggbar. Iron heartbar. Straightbar.

I'm not making any qualitative judgements on the individual shoes, mind.

They're all special. >>

I like 'em Gez - any particular order? - I mean, can you rank those bad boys?

Anyone else any ideas?

Good Lord!

Message:
I was confused, but now Lady Aaron-- has advised me that these are all unpleasant fates for horses after having been sent to the knackers yard. Woah betide such a fate upon one of our dear brethren. Surely a reminder that we should enjoy the height of our jump while we have it.

While in the limelight, Lady Aaron-- would like to suggest the following hairy alternatives -

D1 - Mane
D2 - Forelock
D3 - Swishy Tail

and

D1 - Clip
D2 - Clippety
D3 - Clop

Like 'em, like 'em

The contenders

Message:
Thus far, we have accrued the following names -

1. Eggbar. Iron heartbar. Straightbar.
2. Livewire. Jumpy. Frolicsome.
3. Gelatin. Glue. Dogfood
4. Mane. Forelock. Swishy Tail
5. Clip. Clippety. Clop.

Some solid names indeed. Y'all have to the end of the w/e to vote - 1-5.

On another note, the two new players will not be joining the JH Cup this time, so by my reckoning, the 3 leagues will be as follows -

D1
8ballphoenix
cosgrove
gforcemcpotter
killpaul
nabokovkat
D2
aaron--
aitico
danaktivix
geraintfawr
herrflick
D3
ascidian
badgerandimp
gingerly
hubb
mpauyall

Alphbetical order neatens things up I think - don't you agree Will and Julian? ;)

Does that all seem right?

The names

Message:
Earlier this week I wrote a list of ideas for team category names and happily wandered off thinking I'd posted them on the site. Turns out I hadn't. And now all sorts of things have been suggested, but I'm doggedly going on - here are my ideas. Shire - highland - shetland (size related - Shire being the biggest and therefore the best). Wither - Fetlock - Hoof (quite similar to Ms Bardsley's ideas, but using the leg as a gauge). I thought of another one that was right good, but I can't remember the finer details.

Extended list

Message:
Excellent suggestions there. And seeing as they are so good, I'll close off the voting on Tuesday night.

1. Eggbar. Iron heartbar. Straightbar.
2. Livewire. Jumpy. Frolicsome.
3. Gelatin. Glue. Dogfood
4. Mane. Forelock. Swishy Tail
5. Clip. Clippety. Clop.
6. Shire - Highland - Shetland
7. Wither - Fetlock - Hoof

One vote for no.5 (assuming it still stands) so far. Horses - cast your votes.

Division names

Well, I missed out on all of this intellectual chatter while my computer was being fixed. Is there any logic to the order of the division names? Is Glue seen as being the most noble fate for a jumpy horse?

if you notice

Message:
The title of my original posting suggested that the ranking went in decending order of deliciousness; I put gelatin first and decided that glue just edged out dogfood. When I saw "Glue" appear as the top echelon, though surprised, I decided to hold my tongue. Clearly, there were difficult schoolhouse memories involved for someone--jeering red-faced classmates, the smell of wet wool sweaters, and, hidden in the desk, the paste-pot--sticky on his fingers and lips, forbidden yet alluring. It filled the role of sex before that shameful longing was even known. . .
Why bring that up? I thought. Let the freudian slip remain unmentioned, let our tournament divisions stand obvious yet unremarked upon-- ominous as the unspoken secret in a Mamet play and we the dysfunctional and complicit family. But no--Killpaul plays the role of the drunken cousin at Thanksgiving dinner and now it comes out. . . The shame, the shame!

...I've just f***ed myself laughing.

And in case you're wondering, the asterisks are my own.

Having watched Matt claw at the dripping windows of the messageboard from the warm embrace of the jumpy hearth on more than one occasion due to some rancid native cursing, I know my place.

Mark, you are now responsible for more people thinking I'm an idiot due to the public place I read your above post, if only I was drinking a coffee or something so I could've spurted it over my laptop for full comedic value.

Mark - Glue was the only way of escaping the torment of my youth ;)

Many thanks to Julian and Erin for your setting up of the next of the JH tournies - good work fellow steeds.

In order to keep up with the other tournies - either click on the below links or the ones on the team page.

-> gameknot.com - glue
-> gameknot.com - gelatin
-> gameknot.com - dogfood

Good games all.

New GK updates

Message:
This is the first -

"Team co-captains
By popular demand, teams can have up to 3 co-captains now. Team captains can promote regular team members to a co-captain status via "manage the team" link (same as for team captains, a Platinum or Titanium premium membership is required for co-captains as well). Co-captains can challenge other teams to a team match, and accept or decline other team's challenges."

If anyone feels that they want to take on the title of JH Team co-captain, let me know...(it might just give you the edge on your CV). It does require for the higher membership, but if anyone has it already, send me a message and I'll assess your strengths and weaknesses etc.

Has anyone noticed the new team forums too - any use to us?
