Subject: Team Challenge Matchups
Message: I recently accepted an open challenge. of the three players nominated, my first player had a higher score of 53pts, my second player had a deficit of 8 points and the third had a deficit of 28 pts - a total imbalance of 17 pts in my favour.
now if I had been issued this challenge with the points reversed, I would have accepted it. the challenge was rejected with the comment:
"Team (X) has declined to play a match against your team, with the following note: I think you may have selected your players incorrectly because one pairing doesn't match up well with us."
I am open to comment on this scenario. there was no notation on the challenge stating any point maximums between offered opponents. I could not offer a closer match up between the first two players. I always try to keep matchups within 50 pts of each other and didn't think 58 pts was such a big deal.
is everyone totally obsessed with this facet of team play or am I the only one with a more relaxed approach? I have accepted and been matched up with players up to and over 100pts difference on occasion...

Message: I would have accepted the match. It seemed perfectly fair to me. And like you, I been matched up with people above and below about 100 points difference. Sometimes I have been fairly matched up with an opponent with a nearly even rating and then during the match one of our ratings or both drastically changes.
Perhaps, the match decline was more because of the nature of the graph of the one player rather than any current rating difference. If that player's rating has not leveled out yet, then they should be matched with someone with a similar graph. It's not just the rating that is important. But I agree...that is still being a little picky.

Message: I would have accepted. But my taste is now toward as close as possible. I had one player on my team that had 18 wins and 0 loses. Every time I tried to use him in a team match the other captain said that they were scared of him or they could not accurately match him. His rating was some were around 1620 or so. Not that high I think that I went through 6 team matches with other teams in 3 days before I got him a team match. That was the first time that I have ever been irritated so much. After that I had to take a few days off. Just to cool my head. Just too dang picky. This is a game to have fun and grow. There is too many team captains that take it too serious. Sure I am one to congratulate my team for there hard work and wins but I never tell them that they are playing badly. If we win great if we lose we learn. But the major picture is did we have FUN playing a game? Cheers Eddie
