Hello, team!
Ok knuckleheads - it's time for the Swiss!!!!! Here is the deal:
1) For those of you new to this type of tourney, it's really simple - wins are worth 1, draws are worth .5, and losses are worth 0. The tourney winner is the player with the most points. In the event of a tie for 1st place, the Sokoloff system of tiebreaks will be used.
2) When at all possible, players will alternate color every round. No player will play the same color three times in a row.
3) As TD, I will be pairing every round. The initial pairings are BASED ON LIFETIME GK RATING! As the rounds progress, winners play winners and losers play losers.
4) IF YOU HAVE THE BLACK PIECES - it is your responsibility to challenge your opponent to a 3 day game. The title of the challenge MUST be Southern Swiss Round (whatever #) - so I can verify the games in progress.
5) This tourney will consist of 5 rounds. No round can start untill all games in the current round are completed. The time control on each game is 3 days/move.
6) As we are all friends here, PLEASE do not drag out games. If you are lost just resign and let's move on. On the flip side, several players play slower than average - do not try to rush them.
7) This tourney may take several months to complete. As such, communication with me is vital! I MUST know the status of your games! No first move can be made until I give the word - I beg you to just trust me on this one. Players dropping out, pairing mistakes, and God knows what else can occur. Just bear with me and I'll get us up and running as fast as I can every round.
8) Experienced OTB players - PLEASE help me explain to the uninitiated what is going on as the tourney progresses. You opponents may have questions, and any queries you can take for me would be appreciated. Remember that I have 23 of you to deal with, as well as playing my own games.
9) In the event of any problems or issues, alabamaboy and I will have the final word on its resolution.
10) Games may be either rated or unrated, but both players must agree.
11) I reserve the right to make any changes to the rules of this tournament.

Players with the black pieces please GO AHEAD AND ISSUE YOUR 1ST ROUND CHALLENGE. Entitle the game Southern Swiss Round 1. Players with the white pieces please LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE. DO NOT MAKE ANY MOVES IN YOUR GAMES UNTIL I GIVE THE GO AHEAD! You will find that this is going to be the biggest headache in this whole process. I promise to keep everyone informed, so PLEASE communicate with me!
