Is it possible to report abuse on the Blitz/Rapid real-time games?

This was a full one-way conversation from Duarte311, I tolerate most chess related attitudes,
but was taking the urine.
(Monday 13th March)

the same old repeating cassette...
Take it from a blitz pro....
There always has and always will be wacky types of written behavior in the blitz rooms. If you get one player suspended, another one will pop up and start the same wacky behavior,a non ending loop. Those same players will rarely,if ever follow you into your messaging center because they know that in the messaging center there is now a record of their behavior for GK to easily check out. But,they may not know that there is ALSO a record kept of blitz chat that can be checked out by GK.But you need to keep a record of the exact start and end time of the blitz game, date, exactly what was said on both sides and most important....the board # of the game, then contact GK with that info. Most likely, the opposing player will be warned, but not suspended. However,if other players complained about that same player, say 2 or 3 other times, then GK will check back on the total complaints and possibly suspend that player depending upon the severity of what was written.I have had some blitz players suspended in the past or atleast their chat privileges suspended for a period of time, but it usually not on a permanent basis.

In the example above,I would say that, that behavior is not bad enough to warrant GK doing much of anything. Its irritating a bit, perhaps, but not really insulting types of behavior. If,for example, the player was using swear words calling you all kinds of names, belittling you ect, then ok,complain, like I did.Your chat off option is perhaps even better to use....unless you want to "snare"that player and keep 3 or 4 records of your opponents past behavior and send them all in!

Depending upon ones "interpretation"of how an opponent is "supposed"to play a blitz game, you might get a so called "insulting"pattern of behavior from an opponent. This is common. For example,I sacrifice my Queen many times in the opening,or move my Knights out to a3 and h3 in the opening(very weak moves by my opponents interpretation of how a game should be played)and they start that expected behavior....calling me names, telling me how they will crush me ect ect ect.I do unorthodox and irregular moves many times in the opening to give my opponents atleast a fighting chance to win, sacrificing a major piece for example because the rating differences might be over 500 points, even a 1000 points. So in 3 minutes they end up LOSING anyway whether it be by time or me checkmating them.....and THEN their behavior gets worse, since they stepped on their tongue! When they play me,they have no idea of what they are up against. There is no such thing as "proper"moves in any chess game, especially fast paced 1 to 5 minute blitz! If I move my pawns in an opening blitz game to a4 and h4,this is NOT improper in any way.It might not be the strongest move like 1.d4 or 1.e4 but many blitz players have this false preconception that they will win against weak moves like that, and I prove them wrong most of the time! So,those "cheap jabs"will continue against me in the blitz room....but i'm use to it!!!

So liam1260,just take most of the chat as a grain of sand.It happens. However,if the real "insults"continue....i'd say 2 or 3 times in different games, then complain to GK!

I played against someone in Blitz who did something similar, and he explained that he was getting disconnected and was testing his connection via the chat. Not always it is malicious intent...

Thanks for the input rallyvincent. But both liam1260 and myself aren't really discussing disconnects, that is a whole different issue in blitz. We were discussing the written negative abusive type of chat that occurs from time to time while the game is going on,not sudden disconnects during a game.Yes,that does occur frequently(disconnects)and your right, the internet or testing chat perhaps can yield a involuntary disconnect and certainly is not malicious. But certain types of abusive chat can and need to be addressed to GK occassionally.

I was referring a very similar type of chat messages that liam described; it was a connectivity test. So, it might not have been an ill-meaning Blitz player. Threads in the forum tend to often assume that behavior that possibly can be explained with more then one explanation is done to anger or harm the other player. Rarely the benefit of the doubt is given.

Of course, I have my share of trash talk in chat on the receiving end, and it is usually best to ignore it. Never argue with idiots - they drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.

You are correct rallyvincent.I always ignore it and never argue, and never let them drag me down. But what i do,do is let them bury themselves.See Rally,I find that there is no room for trash talk in the GK blitz room, especially as GK moves into the future and we get, perhaps an improved blitz room and perhaps rated blitz.I have seen too many blitz sites go downhill, people not being able to chat for either long periods of time or not at all and a host of other problems. So,while i do not let comments bother me in the blitz rooms,I will report them each and every time I can to atleast try and weed out the culprits. It works sometimes.I have had players suspended on this site and will openly admit that I WILL report them when I feel I have a strong case.So again,if players desire to be suspended or have their chat privileges either temporarily suspended or permently, then i'm not the one you want to throw trash at.

maybe his child was sitting on his lap, and start playing with the keyboard

Then donfernando,in a case like that,he is stll responsible for his actions and depending upon the severity like foul language and other things,GK can still suspend chat, regardless if it was his child or not.Any questions? However, its easy to tell the diffference when the specific comments go from move to move. So,if I hand a gun to my kid and he shoot's someone while I stand there and then I say nothing to anyone or the police, are you saying you are not responsible for his actions and do not deserve punishment?

Years ago,one of my teenager sons was playing games with my landline phone(I think),calling strangers, harassing them, acting like a hit man and having all kinds of fun.The phone service contacted me by letter, aking politely for the calls to stop.I reponded back that i had no idea what was going on and asked both of my sons if they made calls.Neither one admitted to the calls. So was it one of my sons like I suspected or someone who sneaked into my house and made calls using my phone?Well,it happened several times again.I got a second letter from the phone co stating that if it happens again,my phone service would be suspended.Well,it DID happen again, and my phone service was suspended.I never did get that phone # back again and had to change service. So,even though I had nothing to do with the calls,it was still my phone and account,so I was held responsible for those harassing calls.

Motto? You are responsible for your account on GK,whether it be your child or you or some stranger breaking into your house making comments in the blitz room that goes aginst the rules of GK.And if enough people complain, then your account can be suspended regardless if you have no idea what is going on.
