BaronDerkilt
BaronDerkilt (Craig Collister) died on July 5th. I'm not sure of exact cause but he had many health issues. He was about 50. Very sad. I knew Craig for 35 years. He was a great guy.

Very sad news indeed; he always brought a smile to my face on the GK forums. My condolences to his family and friends.

That is news to me,can't believe it!I also knew he had heath issues, but none of the issues he spoke of to me privately seemed life threatening. He was always my friend on GK throughout the forums,my private messaging and a blitz game from time to time.I have known him indirectly for years. He was a fixture, especally in the forums and was a great help to many.A bit eccentric at times(like me),but a huge value to GK readers. My condolences...he will be missed greatly!A real shock, indeed! I'm half Irish...and will have a salute drink in his memory!

I spoke to another friend of Craig's today. This friend had lunch with Craig the day before he died. All seemed well. Craig's friend thought maybe Craig died of a seizure which he has had a few times in his life. R.I.P. my friend.

Shocked and Saddened
I'm shocked and saddened by Craig's. It was just a few days ago that I responded to an inquiry of his here on another forum. He seemd like a very nice guy. He certainly had a passion for chess and seemed to be a very sharing type of guy. I believe that death is not the end but a doorway to another reality. We are chained in this presnet life by our physical senses. I have come to feel there is more to come. Let Craig continue to enjoy his passions wherever he may be. I will always think of him when I logon to play chess here at Gameknot.

R.I.P. Craig
I was lucky to have him as a friend ...he was an asset to GK and will be missed greatly here..

:(
I have no words. I really like craig and i find it hard to believe he is not coming back.

Say it ain't so. . .
Craig generously gave me the most insightful and useful advice of anyone -- bar none -- about playing chess -- well, now Richard Réti has a worthy opponent. beyond the game of chess =====> Craig & Kate's love story was the most inspiring story of love I ever heard. Cannot imagine what she must be feeling, my deepest heartfelt condolences to her. . .

His last words -- from his profile:
<< "On the downside, I suppose this means the world really Does end in 2012, sigh. OH WELL, I made OTB MASTER, so THATS ok! Goodbye World; nice knowing ya." >>

Baron
I invariably enjoyed Craig's contributions in the forums. Occasionally a little confusing, always amusing. Sad to know they will be no more. My condolences to his family. On another note, great to see you are back, Freddy.

Stunned
Craig was the heart and soul of GameKnot. He's left a hole in this community that can't be filled. Kate ... I'm so sorry.

Thank you garos. Quote << "On the downside, I suppose this means the world really Does end in 2012, sigh. OH WELL, I made OTB MASTER, so THATS ok! Goodbye World; nice knowing ya." >> Tears to my eyes i will not forget craig. - Note to Gameknot > perhaps a small word on the front page about craig and how he will be missed and remembered.

It was always a pleasure to see his posts in the forums concluded with his smile. He will be truly missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Memorial Tournament
Anyone care to organize a memorial tournament here on GK? We might need two to handle the rating differences.

Wow. I never had any idea what he was saying, but I was always happy to see him posting. He's one of the very few people I have friended on this site. I thought the story of him and his wife was amazing. Condolences to his family and friends.

I'm stunned and saddened
This truly breaks my heart. I have been one of his GK chess buddies for years (7?-8?). I knew he had seizure issues in the past, but thought he had gotten past them. I simply don't know what to do or say. Craig was, as stated in an above post, THE ABSOLUTE HEART AND SOUL OF THE GK FORUMS, as well as being a helluva nice guy. I am better for having known him. He really helped my game, and made me feel better about chess in general. His posts will go down in GK history as some of the most entertaining and enlightening ever. He really was a class act in every respect of the word. I have been here on GK for several years now, and unfortunately seen this happen a few times in the past with other GK legends (fliszt and recon come to mind, but there are many others). I'm quite sure that when Caissa called him home, it was only because she needed some of the warmth of his personality. I'll miss you my friend. Please look in on me sometime. Deeply saddened, Thomas PS - And to S&S, please accept the condolences of the entire GK community. Your man was one of the best ever.

I am speechless with grief
about the sad sad news, that Craig has left this life. My deepest condolences goes out to his wife, family and all his friends. This is truly a tremendous loss for the whole GK community and I will always remember Craig, as one which focused on the larger values and perspectives, both in life and when it came to chess. I am honored to have shared his friendship and also shared games of chess, for many years here at GK. May he rest in peace. /Søren alias Cairo

Craig...
... I will miss you. We have off and on over the last five or six years conversed on Gameknot, about chess and music mostly, but occasionally other things. I was aware of his health problems, though Craig never really complained about them, nor did he enlarge on their nature. He struck me as a big-hearted, cheerful guy with a positive outlook on life. My condolences and best wishes go to his wife, Kate, known on GK as 'sugarandspice'. Haere Ra Craig Collister, Ion

I'm really sad to hear this. I didn't really know Craig, but I had two games with him earlier this year. R.I.P.

He will be missed. Soon after I started following the forums I realized he was the heart of the forums. Often on post that didn't interest me, I'd open and scan down through to see if he had posted anything. I always enjoyed his writing. My condolences to the family.

R.I.P. Craig I didn't really know him closely (we conversed only a few times while I was still very active here) but I know he was a very positive guy and he had a unique and interesting take on things. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
