This was mentioned a good # of times in past GK forum posts.I'm all for it as well,but it is very possible that GK may never introduce rated blitz to this site.As you mentioned,it is primarily a corresp site.Blitz sites require alot of additional resources from the GK computer systems.It also will bring in alot more of those blitz "type" of players that perhaps GK does not want.There will be alot more bickering,complaints,problems,cheating complaints and dozens of other things that are par for the course in many blitz sites.Again,i'm actually for rated blitz with the proper setup like being able to specify exactly what rating parameters your opponent will be at while the computer is searching for your potential online opponent.Right now,its luck of the draw for whom you get.Also which color pieces you wish to play,additional time settings,ect ect.Perhaps the resources are better directed for other improvements,who knows?
Since rated blitz was suggested years ago on GK and it has not occurred,then it will unlikely occur in the near future.This is only my opinion.

Thanks tactical_abyss for your reply! Apologies if this was already mentioned before, I haven't been following the forums that long so I missed it.
I understand what you are saying, we'll just see in the future if it will ever happen. But without the rating system I'll still enjoy the blitz games. At the start you never know if you're playing a complete chess idiot or actually a chessmaster
