Emergency Postponement Triggered
I'm kind of upset because my emergency postponement kicked on and it shouldn't have. I played Thursday night at like 9 pm. I do this every weekend, because I work Friday all day and Saturday all day and there is no time to play during the weekends. Usually, the extra day kicks in Saturday afternoon (like 6 pm) and I don't have to worry about time outs. However, it failed to do so this weekend, and I was charged 5 extra days of vacation that I shouldn't have had to take. If this happens again, I could time out and I shouldn't have to worry about it if the site was functioning properly. I have sent in a message to Gameknot as well expressing my frustrations, but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem as well.

It would be good if a link to the game you would've timed-out would be given, or some indication where the timeout would have occurred and when...

Daylight Savings Time
One thing to remember is that the extra 1-day gets added at Saturday midnight GMT. Since the U.S. switched over to Daylight Savings Time starting the 1st week of March, remember that this causes the extra 1-day to get added an hour later than it does during Standard Time.

Mine has surprised me ...
both times it kicked in. It just did last week with one game left. I had looked at the game page and saw that my opponent was on a "21 day pp". But it turned out that the message was an old one. (I usually wait for PP's to end before sending someone my move, in case I think of some wonderful continuation in the meantime.). So I was surprised. But my own fault as always. lol

I do recall GK stating that actual time of the automatic weekend pp starting can vary a bit. I suppose depending on how many games are active and such. And that we should make our own PP if there is any doubt. So I don't think this sounds like a malfunction you had, just standard procedure having some variance. You might want to just take a couple day pp if it is going to be a close call in the future?

You may be right, it could be due to the day light savings thing. I just don't want it to happen again, and haven't had problems up until this point...Now it's got me a little worried, I hate timing out....if I do, I only want to do it when I'm dead...lol.

A caution
Perhaps you did not notice the caution in the FAQ's on the Saturday pp.

It can't be DST...
because that means 5 PM (or 6 PM) would have arrived one hour earlier than expected on the Saturday in question so the extra time would have kicked in an hour earlier. Also, DST arrived the on 8 March 2009 in the US so I think that it is not part of the equation here.

I never rely on the extra day on the weekend. Yet I sometimes enjoy the extra day, because I noticed a long time ago that most all my opponents take advantage of this against me when it is their turn. This last weekend was weird. I expect an extra day to appear on the games that it was my turn. I could be mistaken, but that extra day did not appear this time.

It did not affect me at all, but it was something that I noticed even before Nathanman22 started this thread. At the time, I thought maybe I was mistaken or got confused. I thought it was no big deal. Now, I'm not so sure.

Is there a glitch in the system somewhere? Obviously, other people did get their extra day; otherwise, more would note what I observed. At least, I assume that to be true.
