SBS; Smit's Bishop SacrificeI'm a happy man. In game #11121941 donk57 vs rambohenkie the current position is mate in 4. The opening was 1. e4 e5, 2. Nf3 Nf6, 3. Bc4 Nxe4, 4 Nc3 Nxc3, 5. dxc3 f6, 6. Bh6 I analysed this in the fall of 1973, but couldn't find opponents to play it. The idea is 6...gxh6, 7.Ng5 and then 7...hxg5? 8.Qh5+ Ke7, 9.Qf7+ Kd6, 10. 0-0-0+ Kc6, 11. Qd5+ Kb6, 12.Qb5#, or 7...~, 8.Qh5+ and 9.Nf7 winning the exchange. So I claim a name for this line as "SBS" (Smit's Bishop's Sacrifice, in Dutch Smit's Loperoffer). Player donk57 is a personal friend. Yours truly, Daan Smit (AKA casimirzyk) |

E.g. 7...Bc5 8.Nf7 Qe7 9. Nxh8 Bxf2+ 10.Kxf2 Qc5+, or 7...Bc5 8. Qh5+ Ke7 9. Qf7+ Kd6 with the B on c5 blocking Qb5#. So I claim a name for this move 7...Bc5! as "MBE" (Mark B's Escape). |

...Nothing terribly wrong with taking, though. Black was winning heavily until 9. ... Ke7?? Kd7 is the correct move. |
